I've got a Roland Cube 30 and like it- can't compare it to anything else though.
('cos I've not played through anything else)

haha what did you get wully? . Various brightly coloured picks but the favourite is a grey Jim Dunlop .88mm job. Going back to the big bad city on Thursday so will get some more of them... And maybe a loop station if I can sneak it past the bling police. ( The tuning on my Tele is weird - sometimes the top three strings go sharp over night...I tune them down and all is well for about five mins then they need tuning up again...)

Can you hear it without the tuner?
Then why worry.... ;D
I sometimes think my 'G' string sounds flat, sometimes sharp.
Mostly I think the low 'E' is flat until I try to tune it by ear so it sounds good to me, then the tuner and the rest of the strings tell me it's off tune...so I tune it to the tuner.
Then I play a chord and it all sounds good.
Funny old thing, noise..........and our ears.

When I picked up my new Tele, while the salesman was chatting happily ( like he would after flogging an expensive guitar) and printing receips etc. I was maintaining eye contact, smiling and raiding the pick display. Once I had a decent selection I stuffed them in my pocket- while still smiling. He smiled back and shook my hand.
I think we both left happy....

It's looking like I got a new job today ;D It means I'll be spending some time away from home and instead of watching shitty TV or going out drinking ( most nights )I'm going to take the guitar with me to cram in the practice. (even my playing is 100% better than the shit on TV..) Since I'll be staying in hotels or B&B's, I'll need to keep it quiet so was thinking about a Boss Loop Station or a Line 6 pod - or similar- with the output through headphones. Any advice about my best options would be really appreciated, especially by the guy in the the room next door ....

I found it easier to try and play some tune I knew really well, that way you know already how the words fit the melody and it's also easier to sing along with your playing.
If you sing like me you want to try this in an empty house with the amp cranked all the way up to try and drown out awful noise No.1 with amplified awful noise No2......
Then again you might be a sweet singer with an acoustic guitar- in which case I envy you.

"Start really really slowly and concentrate on getting each chord clean. Play a chord and then take your hand right away from the fretboard and then bring it back and play the same chord again. You should start making the shape before you hit the fretboard. " I've found this really helpful ,not only with chords but with any positioning- Big thanks for that one

But being honest I am more into gin these days - Hendricks, Blackwood and Caurunn - funnily enough they are all Scottish made Get yourself to the Cadenheads shop in Edinburgh or Campbeltown and treat yourself to a bottle of 'Old Raj' gin. They buy in the pure spirit and mature it in their own casks with a secret recipe of botanicals. Almost the best gin ever. (THE best is a special bottling from a friend who got his hands on some quintuple distilled gin that is almost sherbert like...)

Whisky! Where to start...... My favorite in the cupboard just now is Aberlour a Bunadh -sheer nectar at an affordable price. I've got a share in a cask still maturing in an Islay distillery that I'm looking forward to getting my hands on in 2-3 years time ;D ;D As a general rule I look for something un-filtered and cask strength but I've enjoyed plenty of blends as well. Then there's rum.......proper rum straight from the distillery after a sleep of 20 odd years

Just think of all the kit you could get for that kind of money...
Instead of blowing it all on a clever guitar I'd some lessons - lots of lessons- and get my Tele humbuckered....
Oh- and treat myself to one of those Boss loop pedals, they look like a load of fun. ;D

One of the most infectious riffs I've ever heard is R.l. Burnside's "Jumper on the Line". You can see him do both an electric and acoustic version on YouTube. I would love you to do this as I've never found the tabs. Thanks a lot. I watched that - mainly to scoff at Dave Stewart looking like a dick, but I do like R.L. Burnside and love 'Come On In' Anyway, I thought he was just playing an 'A' chord all the way through with some picking on the 'E' and 'A' string. BTW- I am almost a total beginner at this guitar playing so am probably totally wrong...
