Velkommen - det er et godt sted at lære.
The capo allows you to play chords as you normally would and moving the capo up the neck changes the key your playing in- kind of like a permanent barre chord.. So if you put the capo on at the first fret and play an 'E' chord then it becomes an 'F' chord.
( I'm new to all this too so that might not be correct but I'm sure someone who does know will be along soon. )

Started out being Zal Climinson from SAHB when I was in my teens and he still is one of my favourites, rumoured to be writing a book which I'm looking forward to reading if it ever comes out. I'd have to say that that now it's Stevie Ray Vaughan. Or maybe BB King or Johnny Winter. Maybe should get a mention too...........although not much guitar on this track which he made with his grandson I might be here a while

Sounds pretty cool to me. I've just sat in front of the computer all day I've been sat in front of my computer most of the day too - trying to rescue my whole email programme. Contacts, emails, work stuff.....

I need some! Started out today trying to play some 12 bar on the acoustic with a little RL Burnside type lick tacked on, next thing I've got the electric on my lap trying sting bends only to decide that that action was too high ( Note to self: just take the guitar to someone who knows how to set it up) Ended up with the tools out again... Then back to trying string bends which was great fun as Mrs Wully was out of ear shot - although the cat didn't enjoy it as much as I did. Then it was time to put the guitar down as my fingers were stinging but I got side tracked by a Texas Blues Shuffle and now have the beginning of a blister on my 'Jonny Cash' finger So, all in all, it's been a fun afternoon. Doubt I learned much though ;D ;D ;D

I am a beginner at an older age but have loved music and guitar forever and decided to finally give it a go. Same for me only this is third time around... I'd start out all keen and eager then get frustrated and stuck, give up and a while later sell the guitar. This time ( hopefully third time lucky) I can come here and be shown a cool lick or tune and see exactly how it's played. Then several hours later......I can sort of play it. Takes me ages to get it but once I do it feels great being able to play something! Stick with it!

I've only got one-and-half amps....
1. Miniature Marshall MS2 that's been lying around for years- I have no idea where it came from.
2. Roland Cube 30. Being clueless about this whole guitar thing I bought what most revues agreed was the best starter amp and I'm impressed so far.

Tony Cox came to our we village hall a couple of months back, we got tickets along with a disappointing other 23 people considering that he'd been booked two years previously.
Anyway- their loss as he was brilliant.

Thanks for that.
Mrs Wully was well impressed and so was I- we'll need to see if we can get hold of some more of her music.

What should I use as a shim?
I'm thinking of a strip of thin plastic from a drinks bottle?
I've got some paper glue that should be easy enough to remove if/when I mess it up ;D

Thanks for that- from what you say I think the problem might well be the nut.
Both the one on the guitar neck and the one trying to set it up...
I was probably over adjusting the truss rod- not that there is a lot I can do with it..so I'll see if I can get a nut as the buzz is coming form the first few frets

Well, what I'm trying to achieve is a decent action without buzz on the low strings which I have a lot of just now up at the first few frets with the strings are pretty high off the fretboard down around the 12th fret. (And the bridge is adjusted all the way down.)
The cracks look like they are in the lacquer- if they were in the wood I'd know about that for sure... ( I think) I could turn the truss rod to 'unwind' it if I am very careful but don't want to make it any worse than it is. I can get a nut for around £6 so might get one- at the least it will be interesting changing it.
I doubt there is anywhere local to me that will do a set-up so any and all advice gratefully received.
