Beautiful guitars! One question though, where are the pickups on the Crowdster (acoustic electric) ?

Nah. I've been looking through Craigslist figuring people need to pay their Christmas bills right about now. I want a Les Paul Standard but I will NEVER pony up that kind of money so the Studio might make sense for me--someday. Well, thanks for giving me some GAS anyway! I really liked the color of that Studio. I guess this is a good time to get some good Craigslist deals. Unfortunately, I'm broke too, so all I can do is look! Besides, it's hard to find nice guitars in the local Craigslist. I was luck to find my two Epiphones and that Ibanez I didn't buy. As far a Gibsons go, you don't find those here, and if you do, they are FAR more expensive than buying a new one.

I completed my collection with the Tradition Tele I bought last month, so I don't forsee buying anything guitar related unless I come into some serious cash. I have a house that I want to sell this year, and if that goes through, I might buy a Gibson LP Studio w/ coil splitting. The only reason I might buy one is to see what all the Gibson fuss is about! But, it must have the coil splitting because I am really not a big fan of the, "Gibson Les Paul 'thick' tone", as I like to call it. I might also buy a larger tube amp (Fender or Vox) with more bells and whistles, and there are always the impulse 'Craiglist buys', but only if I am able to sell my house.

Never understood the concept. I like my guitars looking new (especially if they are new). This member at another forum put together a relic'ed tele that looks awesome, but he made it to look antique IMO, not beaten up!

Good info. Gasman, speaking of semi-hollow, I picked up an Ibanez Artcore from a broke college kid. Daddy like! Very sweet, nice sustain, similar setup to the Dot (I think except I have a Bigsby.) I buy guitars as much for looks as for sound (got to have good tone) much the same as when I buy a firearm. I love anything that is finely crafted and makes you look good while it is doing its job. Can't say that about a Glock, now can you? Right before I bought my Tradition Tele, I almost bought an Ibanez Artcore with a Bigsby like the one you have. It was advertised in the local Craigslist. It was a beautiful guitar! If I would have had enough money, maybe I would have bought it too! I actually saw it before I found out about the Tele I eventually bought. I was planning on buying the Artcore but then I went to this tiny music shop (the closest to where I live) to inquire about a ukulele for my son, and I asked the owner if he had any Tele style guitars (I was GASing for one). Well, he showed me the Tradition Tele he had, so I did some research on it via the net, and decided to buy it instead of the Artcore. Financially, it worked out better for me because I was able to trade in my solid state amp towards the purchase of the Tele, but that Artcore is still on my mind as 'the one that got away' . As for the guns, I prefer revolvers over semi-autos, so no comment about the Glock from me. ;D

HA! HA! HA! Happy Jack, I agree with you about the ugly thing! If this is any representation as to what manufacturers are doing these days, I'd say you did the right thing by getting your beautiful guitar custom made. You got exactly what you wanted at a better price than what is being offered out there by these so-called 'value brand' off-shoots of guitar companies that sell over-priced guitars to begin with (I have two used Epiphones, but I would never have bought one new)! These guys sure went all out to try to sell their product on their website, but to me, it seems they are trying to do what Gibson did with their Epi Elitist line. That line was discontinued by Gibson (or Epiphone) a while back, so let's see if Suhr does better with their attempts - I think not!

Go back to bed Blues Yeah ignore us we like to bicker amongst ourselves - it is just like being married but without the sex ;D HA! HA! HA! - That is TOO funny! I agree with you on your 'tone woods' post. I think that's why I decided to get one of each style that I liked. I love all of my guitars, but yeah, they all have a different tone because of the different woods and construction style, including pickups used and configuration. For example, my Ibanez has a mahogany body with two humbuckers that I can split. Even though it's mahogany (but with a maple neck), it doesn't exactly sound like my Les Paul. I prefer the Ibanez over the Les Paul BECAUSE it doesn't sound the same. My other favorite is my Epi Dot because of the semi-hollow construction. That construction allows it to have a unique tone, when compared to the others.

Had never heard of them before. Looking at the one price I saw on their website, they are more expensive than the high-end Epiphones (excluding signature and limited edition models). I don't call that a 'value-priced' guitar! No thanks, not impressed! I've got all the guitars I need, but if I didn't, I'd still stick with buying my 'used - under $350' guitars!
Mini-Rant: I just can't see how guitars can be so expensive! It's getting to the point where only rich people seem to have the right to enjoy playing a decent guitar (seems that's what some manufacturers think, anyway!) To me, owning a guitar isn't a competition about who can have the most expensive guitar. It's about finding a decent guitar at a decent price that you will enjoy playing, regardless of what it says on the head stock!
Sorry that I used your thread to rant, Happy Jack, but just seeing that website made me want to say something that I've been wanting to say for a long time!

Hey Les, I think Happy Jack explained the Fat Strat pretty well! You should ask your friend to let you play his Fat Strat to see how you like it. Everyone has their own personal taste in guitar tone, but any guitar tone can grow on you, even if you initially don't like it. Here's my experience: My first electric was my Harmony Strat, so I was exposed to the Strat sound first, and I really liked it. I then bought my Ibanez with humbuckers and a mahogany body, so I got to experience the thicker humbucker tone, which I also liked. I can split the coils on my Ibanez, but because of the pickup configuration and the mahogany body, in single coil mode, it still doesn't sound exactly like my Harmony. The last two guitars I bought were my Epi Les Paul and my Tradition Tele, which to me, are the extreme opposites when it comes to guitar tone. To tell you the truth, at first, I couldn't get used to either the Les Paul tone or the Tele tone (too extreme in either direction). Both guitars grew on me after a while. Overall, I still prefer the tone of my Ibanez Jet King II and my Epi ES-335 Dot. These two guitars offer a more 'middle-of-the road' tone, whether it be single coil or humbucker.

My 'PICK UP' guitar would be whichever one I have out at the time. I rotate my guitars from case to stand; each for about three weeks at a time. Right now, I am about to put my Tradition Tele away and bring out my Epi ES-335 Dot, but my 'PICKUP GUITAR' would be any of the guitars in the "Gasman's Guitars" thread (depending which one is on the stand at the time).
