to me the best and most famous lick of all time has to be Jonny B. Good by Chuck Berry.I don't know anyone who hasn't tried to play it or anyone that hasn't heard it. I bet the first few notes of that song are what started the term "lick"in the first place. Hey Mojo, how about a little demo of that lick for us guys?

I have been trying for countless days to finger pick with no success.I cannot get my thumb to keep the beat on one string and have my fingers play the melody.just when i think i am getting somewhere my thumb starts going along with the melody.I guess all the years of my thumb and 1st finger being connected with a pick they are still connected in my brain. Maybe i'm not practicing the correct way or something. any help would be appreciated, all this trying is actually giving me a headache.

speaking of funny bike stories, wrecked my bike at 50mph. was in the middle of a 4 car accident(wrong place at the wrong time) and my wife walks into the hospital(where I'm fighting for my life)holding her wedding ring in her hand and tells me if i get another motorcycle i can have the ring back. Sometimes i really miss that woman.

I didn't really mean for this to be a contest between the two. I understand that outside of actual guitar players that not too many people have even heard of Jeff Beck, while most have heard and like Clapton. I agree that claptons music is more popular and easier to listen to, but i just think becks playing has that something extra that as a guitar player just does it for me. I just can't watch "live at ronnie scotts"and not get goose bumps no matter how many times I've seen it.

I just think jeff beck is a better guitar player than clapton. just more fluid and moves around the neck easier and plays many more styles.Beck is always happy with a guitar strapped around his neck. Clapton just seems to want to play the blues like Hendrix which will never happen, only one Hendrix. Guess that's why clapton never seems truly happy with his guitar playing.Just my opinion which i know doesn't add up to much in the guitar world.
