Since everyone is talking about amps here as of late, I throw this one out to you guys to see what you think: I'm thinking of getting myself a music-related Father's Day/Birthday gift this month, but I can't spend too much at the moment. I've been looking through my local Craigslist and have come up with two possible options.
1. An older Peavey Express 112 amp. I think it is U.S.A. made and 65 watts.
2. An almost new Kustom KG210FX 20 watt amp.
Does anyone have any experience with this Peavey model or with Kustom amps in general? BTW, I'm leaning towards the Peavey amp, if it is still available by the time I decide to pull the trigger. I already have two 5-watt amps (one tube, one digital), so I don't know if I should even be considering this!

Both amps are a bit OTT for home playing The Peavey gets mixed reviews but is really a gigging amp I think it is a transtube - pretend valve. Never played a Peavey that I really liked but that is just opinion Never played a Kustom KG210FX but have played a Kustom KG10FX - didn't think it was anything special As neither are valve amps and I am a valve amp man personally I wouldn't be interested in either - but that is just personal opinion The Peavey will be pretty loud and the Kustom will be a bit louder than your 5 watt valve amp - why not get a 2 x 12 cab for your 5 watt valve amp?

@ Leerummey
I think I tried the LIne 6 Spider IV 150. Not bad at all, but not 'natural' enough for me. Too much effects going on.
Nothing beats the sound of a good tube amp (like the ENGL).. I play an American Standard Tele, and the amp produces the tones the way it should be.

Thanks for the response, HJ! The cab idea is good. I hadn't thought of that! Anyway, I'm just playing around with the amp ideas, until something better pops up on Craigslist. But I do like the cab idea!

They are both very different amps (Blackstar HT5 and Laney Cub10) and I like them both equally. If I had to have one it would be a very difficult choice. The Laney is more raucous, raunchy and has more of a vintage vibe somehow. The Blackstar is very polished somehow. I don't know if that makes sense. With the new distance selling laws if you buy mail order you can still send them back although you will have to pay postage

from what ive seen online as in reviews the ht5 would be better for rock/metal ? i may be wrong lol so with these distance selling laws how long do you get hj? and (no pressure here ) but in your opinion would i be sending th 12R back ? and should i (in you valued opinion ) just bite the bullet and order one ? sorry to stick that one on your lap buddy lol

If the 12r is as good as the 10 you won't be sending it back Distance selling regs (I think) are 7 working days but I think some UK music shops offer 14 days certainly Dolphin, Gear4music do

also hj i could check online but hey !!! lol does the 10 have the .75w output and reverb ? Lee no the Cub10 doesn't have reverb or a low watt output. As for settings - depends on your guitar really - I like to keep the tone on middles on the amp and do any fine adjustments on the guitar. Also crank your amp up and lower the volume of your guitar Don't underestimate the value of your guitars tone and volume controls. A decent Overdrive pedal is a good investment too

cheers hj i always fine tune with my guitar i find its more responsive than my amp ( resposive the right term lol ) i suppose an overdrive pedal would be a good investment so i could switch it on and of as required
