Well the Tele didn't live for very long. At least in the form that I bought it in. After being seduced by Phil's Tele build I lost my mind and started selling off parts and ordering others. Now the only thing left of the original guitar is the body, two knobs, the control plate, the input jack, the cap, and one pot. I'll post pics after everything comes in and gets installed. New parts list as follows: *9.5 radius Warmoth Modern Vintage neck, maple on maple with 6150 frets, Corian nut, finished in clear satin nitro *Grover mini tuning machines *StewMac vintage string trees *Gotoh six saddle brass bridge *Bill Lawrence Keystone pups, bridge and neck *250k volume pot *4 way switch *white pickguard off a MIA Tele I used to own I'm so excited but the only thing to come in so far is the pot, bridge, tuners and trees. Neck should be in by the end of the week. 4 to 6 weeks on the pups left to go. Eek, more mayem in the guitar world ;D Just out of curiosity, what made you choose to swap out the original 3 saddle bridge with the ashrtay cover? I thought the Ashtray was very sought after these days as Fender don't do them anymore.

I thought the Ashtray was very sought after these days as Fender don't do them anymore. Intonation problems with the 3 saddle bridge. I just couldn't help but get the willies from the thing. I'm much happier with the 6 saddle even though the general twanging public goes for the three. There is a tonal difference but I'm OK with the slight change. The neck came in yesterday so I'm installing the tuning machines and trees today. The neck feels awesome. I'll do a minor setup on it tonight and wait a couple of weeks till the neck has enough time adjust under tension of the strings and then do a fret level and polish. I'm designing some waterslides to install so the new girl will have a little personality. Cheers

Glade to see you're making progress on your Teli. I have to agree that these boys seem to grow on you. My neck is off again and I am starting the neck finishing.. Still working on the water slide my self, I can hardly wait to see your idea. Before the weekend is over, I'll have the pictures up. Phil

I'm shipping out the old pups today. Everything is sold that I'm selling. She's stripped down as far as she can go without the finish coming off. I guess I can do a little solder work like jumpers and things like that. Fill and redrill the pickguard holes maybe. WAITING ON PICKUPS IS KILLING ME!!!!! Sorry, just needed to vent a bit.

I can almost hear the twang from here. I think we need some pictures and a recording of the new pups.

Got in too big a hurry and cross threaded a ferrule on the bridge pickup. I'm just sick. Oh Man that sounds serious, did you have to call 911? :-) Another reason why I'm too timid to attempt this sort of thing: I'm all thumbs. As you can tell from my guitar playing.

I've installed several sets of pickups over the years and thats the first time its happened to me. To their credit I contacted Shannon at Wilde (Bill Lawrence) and she shipped me a new insert and screw today. Great service and they kept the snickering to a minimum. We're playing tomorrow night and then we have a week off, so I'll get it done in that time. Ah the trials and tribulations of GAS.

I have no idea what a ferrule is, and I have no idea what new part they shipped you, except for the screw. I would hope I am not the only one that doesn't have a clue as to what you did wrong to your bridge pickup, but just in case, would you please humor me and explain it in plain English please LOL! Thanks!!!

LOL gasman. OK, on a telecaster bridge pup there is a metal baseplate that is kind of triangular shaped and larger than the oblong bobbin that the copper windings are wrapped around. At the corners on this particular manufacturers pick up are female threaded inserts that the pickup mounting screws go into. There are also rubber sleeves that go around the screws that give tension to the pickup in the mount to allow for more precise height adjustments. What I "screwed up" on was to not trim down the sleeve to a more reasonable length ( they come the full length of the screw). By not trimming the sleeve I was both demanding the sleeve compress too much and not giving myself a good look at the screw trying to get into the insert and thereby I cross threaded the mounting screw into the sleeve. In other words, I boneheaded the thing all to pieces.
