We have had pedals and amps - now guitars
Mine was my Classic Player Strat but now it is my Rees Custom. I just love it
I do pick up Mrs Grumpy Jacks Yamaha acoustic fairly often too - although I wish she would

I go through phases. I have a Taylor acoustic that I dearly love and for an around the house thing it's very handy. For the last few months its been a US standard Strat I traded an amp for. It's got some Bare Knuckles pups in it and sounds and plays great. Most of the time it's a Tom Anderson T. Anderson make some phenomenal guitars and they will spoil you rotten. The Strat is trying to make a man out of me again. ;D

HappyJack, Could you please expound upon that very interesting little red number that confronts me each time I read one of your posts. I assume it is the Rees Custom you mentioned. Maybe a larger picture and a little review might be in order........please.

Right now it is my Hohner SE 35 Professional Series semi. Lovely tones and a very easy neck to play. Also she is in a very sexy Black.
However, while I don't wish to appear unfaithful to her, I am really looking forward to the return of my Telecaster. I have not had a chance to play her through my new amp yet as she is in for a refinish. Hoping to get her back in time for my birthday!!

Thats tough enough man!! Reminds me of a Steve Morse kind of guitar. Love the pups and pickguard. Cool body wood. Love the neck. I really think you should send it on over here and let us do a detailed evaluation of the instrument. Eventually you may even get it back. ;D

My 'PICK UP' guitar would be whichever one I have out at the time. I rotate my guitars from case to stand; each for about three weeks at a time. Right now, I am about to put my Tradition Tele away and bring out my Epi ES-335 Dot, but my 'PICKUP GUITAR' would be any of the guitars in the "Gasman's Guitars" thread (depending which one is on the stand at the time).

I know there seems to be something of a low opinion of strats in here, but my pickup guitar is a 60th anniversary edition Fender strat. It isn't the best sounding guitar I have, but I like the "feel".

I don't think that is true - it's only Lesblues who doesn't like strats (and that is only because Lady Ann won't let him have one) I love my strat. The forum is more Telecaster biased though but I love my Telecaster too ;D

I suppose a logical argument is in order.
I propose that the Tele has a sound of it's own (same goes for Martin acoustics.) I further propose that a Strat sounds like whatever electronics you install. I would bet that a strat and a les paul with the same PUPs, POTs, etc. would sound very similar.
What do the experienced players have to say?

What do the experienced players have to say? I don't think I agree there. Pick ups are a huge influence but so are the tone woods used to make the body of the guitar and whether they are solid or chambered The tone woods used Les Pauls and Strats are completely different and a strat will never sound exactly like a Les Paul even with the same pickups. The wood used in the manufacture of the body must effect the resonance and sustain of the strings. A Alder bodied Strat with humbuckers is much brighter then a Mahogony bodied Les Paul Tone wood explained www.soundunlimited.co.uk/article_Guitar_Tone_Woods_39.htmlwww.bothner.co.za/articles/bodywoods.shtmlMy Rees has a Korina body and when played with single coils it sounds nothing like a strat

In fact for me it is the welcoming attitude that keeps me coming. Back and of course the great bunch of people who populate the forum. It should of course go without saying that any discussion between Happy Jack and I should be taken with a generous pinch of salt.
