I have this love / hate relationship with two different guitar models.
Strats and Les Pauls.......Maybe love / hate is a little strong. Maybe its more like lust / never use.
I buy Strats, love playing them, never use them live, sell said Strat, miss said Strat, become obsessive, buy another Strat, start cycle over again.
Same with a Les Paul, except now I really have it bad for a wine colored Deluxe I saw.
Maybe I should get one more of each and then hide them from myself until I want one again and then ask my wife (who knows where everything in the world is....she could probably find bigfoot and Jimmy Hoffa if asked) where they are and THEN start over again.
Anyone else?

I have a MASSIVE MASSIVE love / hate relationship with Strats. I love Tele's, they're a wonderful guitar, they come through the mix beautifully, they're simple. Nice deep neck pickup, quacky vintage sounding middle, trebily bridge. What more do you need? They can be a little on the thin sounding side at times, but that's easily fixed. Well I played a Fender Road Worn.... 50's strat I think they guy said it was on Saturday just gone. My gosh what a beautiful sounding guitar. And yet I'm totally lying to myself, no I still like the G&L ASAT Special, even tho I'm actually prefering the Bluesboy at the moment for some reason which is a reversal of my previous opinion..... I'm going to have to take my amp in and play some of these things - again! I would very much like to get a G&L ASAT this year. But I might have to bite the bullet and say "Look face it, you like Strat's sound, go buy yourself a decent Strat!". Les Pauls I don't have the same issue with. My Dearmond is a Les Paul copy. It comes out occasionally. The pickups are very nice. bit more beefy than my Tele, but not muddy and awful like 90% of humbucker guitars I try. I even recorded on it 2 weeks ago. But it's not my go to guitar by any stretch.

Good....then it's not just me. Evidently there are more "I need that tone, no I don't, yes I do" folks out there. Hey lee, what's happening. I haven't been as consistent on the forum as of late. Been very busy with the band. We finished up our last punch session on Sunday and we're waiting on the first round of mixdown. Unfortunately we have to do all the photo shoot stuff now. I like putting together the panel artwork and stuff but not the photography. Vanity I suppose. I just somehow realize I may not be as pretty as I once was. ;D How have ya'll been?

Honestly it's something I've never been able to figure out. I find strats comfortable to play, I'm assuming from what I've said above my ears actually like the tone. I wouldn't say neck access is vastly improved on a Tele, they're pretty similar other than body shape. There's a couple of nice bevels in the body that make it a little more comfortable to play.
That said I picked up one Tele at a music store once, it was a Fender and a blonde one (I do like my blondes!). It was the most comfortable guitar I've ever played in my life. I have no idea which model it was so maybe I'm chasing the one that got away.
Is it just out of a want to be different? Tele's aren't THAT uncommon themselves. I've looked at Vox's, Sterling (musicman imports), I'd like to try some PRS stuff like the Soapbar. I seem to be really stuck on good single coil tone, which removes a whole lot of guitar makes from the mix fortunately!

Or the one we sold and wished we wouldn't have? That's exactly why the LP Deluxe is so all over me. My first LP was a Deluxe I got back in the late 70s. I've never found one that sounded or played better. The Strat does have it's own tone and vibe. Really like no other. I reality (as far as fender stuff goes) it doesn't have to be a Fender brand. A partscaster such as my Tele would do the job nicely. However a LP must be in fact a Gibson. Why? Because that's just....I mean......well obviously..........JUST BECAUSE. ;D I'm not a PRS fan really. But a soapbar'd PRS or Anderson or Les Paul would be a welcome addition anyday!!! I love the snotty sound of a P90. I have come to the conclusion then that my current stable should stay with me (cause if I sold them then the thread would be the same with different models named). Expanding the collection as funds allow. That is the new name of the game. In order of need (or lust) 1. Les Paul Deluxe 2. Strat 3. Lap Steel 4. ES335 5. Dobro 6. Critter with p90's (probably a LP)
