It looks like I am about to get my first ever Gibson, most probably a Les Paul!
Our main music retailer up here in Canada has a limited run of 200 Les Paul Traditional Faded models that are currently selling for $700 less than the Traditionals normally sell for. Although I can't really afford one they are offering some pretty good financing on them and, if I were to pay it off within a year, I would pay virtually nothing in interest.
So instead of swapping the neck on my Strat, I am now selling that guitar and will be putting the money I get for it down as a down payment on the Lester. I had arranged to swap my Strat neck with a rosewood fretboard to someone else for their neck with a maple fretboard but I have canceled that (the guy totally understood why I was canceling and was fine with it) and the friend in the US who was handling the swap for me has already shipped my neck back to me. I should receive it tomorrow or Friday. Once I put my original neck back on I will sell it privately (a buyer is already arranged and we are meeting early next week) and, as I said, I will use that cash for the Lester. Even if that deal falls through the store has offered me much more than I expected as trade in value for my Strat so, regardless of where it goes, the Strat is on the way out and I'll have my first Gibson by the end of the month!
I am going to take a look at SGs as well but I do not find them nearly as comfortable to play as I do Les Pauls so, although the payments on a SG would be slightly easier to handle, I really think I am going to get the Les Paul as the payments aren't that much more per month.
I can hardly freakin' wait to get my first ever Gibson, especially if it turns out to be my first Les Paul!
As soon as I get it I will post a NGD thread with pictures of my new baby!
