Choice of two strats - both the same price
Fender USA Stratocaster Plus Delux with Lace Silver and Lace Blue - 1989
Fender USA Stratocaster 50th anniversary American Standard Series special edition with Custom '54 pick-ups 2004 (obviously!)
Both are in excellent condition - but I can't try them both only the Plus Delux
Any thoughts?

I really like lace pick-ups but it won't have that old classic strat sound. Can't go wrong with either of those guitars. Oh what a joy-est choice you have.

Haven't ever really been a fan of Lace Sensors, so I'd probably say the 50th ann version. Shame you can't try both

Ewwwwww, tough one. You'd be hard pressed to go wrong with either of those. Either one would be a good choice. I might lean a little into the Plus but that's just me. Pickups are always available for change. If it's the Plus I'm thinking about it's a looker too. Good luck Bro. but there's no wrong answer here.

I'm off to a big music sale at the local showgrounds tomorrow. Knowing the vendor it'll be Schecter, Yamaha, Ashton, Ibanez, SX, and maybe some random other stuff. I did see an interesting looking Schecter Tele once with coil taps and pretty nice action, but too much of a bank buster for me. Need more money lol
Might see something interesting....

I have a Schecter PT which is is just about to have a pick up change - the PT is the only "modern" tele shaped Schecter I think?

Well I went for the Plus Deluxe on the reasoning 1. That it is localish so I could go and try it (which I didn't in the end) 2. It is in a shop that specialises in high end guitars and all mail order sales can be returned with seven days 3. I have 50s style vintage pick ups on my classic player so different pick-ups would be - well..... different 4. Pick ups can be swapped 5. The more modern USA strats I have felt weren't worth the price over my CP50s for the extra quality 6. The spec on this guitar is higher more like an American Deluxe Mark who owns the shop is very particular with what he sells and he keeps all his stock meticulous - you never see a guitar with a finger mark in his shop. He rated the guitar as 9.5/10 in condition and gave me a "handshake" warranty When it arrived I couldn't believe this is a 21 year old guitar. There isn't a single scratch, ding or blemish. The fret work is like new and there are no wear marks on the neck or fingerboard at all. The marks on the bottom of the neck are just light - it didn't photograph very well in the light The electronics all work silently and seem to feel much higher quality then my MIM CP50s and I love the rolled neck edges The pick up configuration is lace sensor silver / silver / blue and I really like the tones. You have to fiddle about with the tone and TBX controls but once you sort them you get pretty good Strat tones although a little warmer then my 50s. I have seen alot of people complain that they are sterile sounding but they sound fantastic to me through my tube amps and no hum! I still can't get over the condition this guitar is in for the age it is and the condition it was supplied in. Fully set up to Fender specs (whether that is by luck or judgement), fully checked and polished. Mrs Miserable Jack just grunted and said "it is the same as your other guitar" aahhh women can't live with 'em can't shoot 'em

I tried once liking it to women buying shoes / handbags - yeah I didn't get very far with that tack Anyway that looks absolutely amazing. While I don't personally like them, lace sensors do provide some interesting sounds I will admit. Volume is pretty consistent when bending too. I have heard of a treble booster being useful to get a bit more out of them. Sound is something only your own ears can decide. But it's all relative to other gear you have too. My hand build amp is far more touch responsive than my Mesa.

Bravo HJ, well done. Great choice!!! I have to keep telling myself "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's Strat". ;D ;D ;D What is the neck shape? If it's a C then you're absolutely killing me Bro. And it's a two point trem which I think are superior to the old six screw kind. (no rocks from six screw fans please, just an opinion you know ) Man, even the case looks mint. Can't say enough. Love it.

It is a C shape neck and very nice it is to,
Unfortunately Mrs Jack has told me I have to move all my gear out of the Conservatory and take over a bedroom but as part of the negotiations and compromise agreement I am allowed to keep two guitars downstairs and buy a small practice amp for the conservatory. She may think she has won this skirmish but the war is far from over
So just got a Vox Pathfinder 10 for £44 new - great little amp. Not particularly versatile but it does one thing very well and that is a nice warm British clean and I cam pretty impressed with it for a S/S amp and for the money.
The overdrive channel seems pretty crap but I haven't really played with it properly and if it is I have a spare OD pedal.
It lacks reverb but again I have a spare pedal
The best thing about it is it has real retro looks just like a mini AC30 and it is really small 15" x 10" x 7". I wouldn't recommend it as an only amp but great as bedroom / spare / office amp
