I've only listened to these in the car so I might have more opinions later Dire Straits - Dire Straits - Been meaning to get this for a while. They didn't really know how to bring out MK's voice yet - only a couple of songs does he really come through (waterline, sultans mainly). water of love is a pretty cool song I didn't know of before. Even in this early album tho - MK plays like an absolute master. Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire - Good selection of songs, all live, I don't need to say more it's Mr Cash Charly Blues Masterworks Volume 28 - Chicago Blues - Well mastered, good collection - might get some more of these. Need to play on my stereo to really decide. Lots of songs our band is doing (bright lights big city, walking by myself, don't start me talking) and others I enjoy. Dr Feelgood - Singles, The U.A. Years - Collection of Dr Feelgood stuff from 1974 to 1987 in its various incarnations. Really enjoying this stuff, but I think my attention needs to follow Mr Wilco Johnson's machine gun style of play for a little bit.

I remember when the Dire Straits album in question was released. I still remember where I was when I first heard it. A definite jaw dropper of an album. imho there is not a bad song on there.

Great selection of albums, Sultans has always been in my top 10 from the first time I heard it . Just think how great that song could have been if their guitar player was any good. Mark Somebody. ?? Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha. That was almost as bad as saying the G word in this forum. Sorry, I am feeling a little punchy this is my first weekend completely off in 3 mo. Don't know how to act. ;D

lol yeah lucky that David Knopfler guy was there to hold it all together Sultans was one of the first songs I learned how to chord. I can play bits and pieces of the fills, but there's so many I gave up on duplicating them a long time ago. Tho it would be a good exercise I don't doubt. Whenever I don't know what to do, I play. seems to work well. While recording my songs yesterday I seemed to notice the machine gun style (rapid all downward strums and note hitting) was much easier to keep my voice and timing in check. The upstrokes or if I tried to play a bit of a fingerstyle fill was usually where my timing would unhinge, even on songs I can play flawlessly without singing. It's improving, but still hard to do for me...
