I have a little money, might truck around on the weekend Visit a few more pretty things at the guitar store. The wee Greg Bennett / Samick actually sounds pretty mint for a humbucker The model above the AV1, the AV3 is nicely bound with a flamed top, and has a set neck. Only $499 here which is little more than an Affinity series squier at $399, and good chunk less than a classic vibe at $799. I must be missing something? I'll probably also visit the ASAT again (hmm $799 last I checked) if it's still around. Maybe an Italia if they have a piezo one. Hmmmm...

It would be a shame not to buy a Tele in the 60th Anniversary year. That G&L might sway me heh. We'll have to see tomorrow!

Ok I tried a few guitars today with a Fender Mustang II amp. Admittedly I only tried the early Fender settings on the amp, Bassman, Deluxe, and of course settled on the twin reverb. They're not a bad wee amp. Played a Jaguar (I seriously have to bone up on jaguar switching - my tele brain just got confused), a squier tele custom ii (p90s), G&L ASAT Special, Italia Maranello (I think), Fender Jazzmaster (p90 neck, humbucker bridge), couple of Sterling musicmans, and a Fender Esquire. I ran out of time to try the greg bennett / samick, and they didn't have an AV series in stock, so that's my next mission. The G&L ASAT special is still very much in the running for my next guitar, but there was a surprise waiting for me at the music store in the form of a Parker Fly P-38. This is a guitar the music store hasn't been able to sell and I was told to make an offer When looking at electrics with a piezo pickup I saw parker's range before, then saw the price tag and wondered if they were joking for a guitar that doesn't have much body to it. The neck is thin-ish, but not uncomfortable. The pickups sound good and bright even with the manky strings that were on it (louder than the ASAT special), SSH layout + piezo can be on / off or blended. Given the cheapest Parker Fly on ebay I see is $1000 US, and this one is at $900 New Zealand money (about $700US) it seems like a good deal especially if I can negotiate. The only shame is the piezo uses the same output jack, so if I wanted to run the piezo out to the PA direct instead of my guitar amp (which usually produces more acoustic sounding results) I'd need an a/b switch. Well that and the unusual look of the guitar

Wow!!! That's by far the best price I've ever seen on a Parker Fly. I've played a few and they really are great guitars. Adrian Belew swears by them. I'd have a hard time passing that up especially if they are willing to negotiate. Like the Moj man said....Good times brother. ;D

I've done some reading and this isn't an actual 'Fly'. It's made under license in Korea which is why it's cheaper. Still I've read reviews from people that go to this guitar instead of a deluxe fly they own. These came out around year 2000 or so, but don't know when the shop got it originally so it might have been sitting a while. The bridge is a humbucker and a very different volume to the single coils in the neck and mid. Could be handy to whack into a treble-y lead break with boosted volume. I haven't been able to get on the parkerguitar website last couple of days to check anything which is a bit of a pain. Will probably track down an AV series Greg Bennett and otherwise try and decide between the asat and the p-38. That usually means my amp comes with me to the music store

With a bit more research (ie parker guitars website is back up!), it seems the Parker uses a stereo output cable for the piezo, so I'd need a Y-cable to run this off to a PA etc, but it can be done. Not something the music store guy knew about, but then he couldn't help me figure out jaguar switching either It's always a supply and demand thing here, but from what I've read you can pickup a used p-38 for around 400-500 bucks in the US.
