Fluxtone and now Eminence have come out with a variable flux speaker that allows you to turn up your amp and turn down your speaker making it less efficient and thereby allowing a lower perceived volume. Our soundman is on me to lower my stage volume and I totally understand the need.
Anyone try one of these? If so what are your impressions?

New to me. Onstage volume is always a headache. That is why we went to running everything through the PA and Subs. We are able to keep the stage at 85 DB through the monitors and the PA at what ever is needed. The other advantage is that the sound man can fine tune the audience sound much easier. Thats the way the big Boys do it now. The big speakers and Cabs on stage are more for show than volume. Main speakers to each side and the subs all in one location. The biggest mistake that most local bads make is that they seperate the subs resulting in an imballance. Subs are non directional so they can go any where. I like to put them in a corner and bounce them off the wall (wall loading) and it works really well. For groups starting up this is a cheap way to get started. Big PA and mic or use direct boxes for every thing. Less crap to carry too. I know it goes against convential band set ups but try it some time. Phil
