Alright, well... I have recently found myself in possession of one of the Squier fender strat's, and one of the frontman amps. Now... The amp is, probably not the greatest for what i want to play, but... I am determined to learn first, and then go amp shopping. Possible even guitar shopping My request, would be... Does the almighty Mojo, Poster of Awesome Videos, or anyone else on the forums, have any tips, hints or useful videos / starter songs for learning to play me some Heavy Metal? I am a rather huge fan of the stuff and learning to play it would be awesome!

I must admit that I am no heavy metal guru, so I am not sure how helpful I can be, but I'd offer the following: 1. play along w/ the records you like. It's good practice, it's fun, and it gets you a feel for the groove/styles you need to learn. 2. learn power chords if you don't already know them. Full open chords w/ heavy distortion sound like junk. 3. you may want to invest in a pedal if that amp can't deliver the crunch you're looking for. 4. are you interested in rhythm work, lead, or both? 5. invest in some good earplugs

Time to start learning me some power chords then! Probably more interested in lead.. But right now, for the sake of being able to do both if i need or want to, it is rhythm and lead Judging on the prices of pedals that I have looked at... I think I may actually but the money towards a Roland 30X instead. Earplugs for me, or earplugs for the rest of the household?

That depends on how supportive of your mayhem the rest of the household intends to be

Hmm... I think they are supportive in the sense that it gets me doing something. Need to annoy me some neighbours!

Where did my post go? bet I forgot to hit send before closing this window!
Would be helpful to know the artists you like listening to. Although metal can sound like a noisy mess, it also can be pretty complicated. But you can always simplify to start with.
Malmsteen is about the heaviest stuff I listen to, but he often goes beyond what I like. He tends to play minor scales in his leads.
Satriani is more my speed, there are blues scales in his stuff, but lots of other scales too. He mixes it around a bit, his left hand freedom up and down the neck I'm very envious of. His 'verse' sections usually aren't all that complicated though.
