Just picked up my Tele and tried it out on a few small tube amps and to my surprise the Epiphone Valve Junior Combo Amp was my favorite. Tried the little Vox, the little Bugara. It had very clean sound with a full bottom end. Did not get as gravely as the Vox but the full bottom end was really quite nice. Just what I was looking for in a small tube amp. All for $165 I think I may have to get one. It is a little complicated to run. It has an on off switch and a volume control. Even a boy from Iowa can figure that out. They also had head and cab combo that was nice but I liked the sound of the little fella the best. Talked to the sales man there ,an old friend of mine and he said and they would be stopping selling Bugara soon since they are not repairable and have a high failure rate, So if you are looking for an amp keep that in mind.

Sweet little combo at a price that's hard to say no to. Great mods for those, too!

I well I did it. went back with my Ibaneze 103, 335 clone, ( Woody) and that was the finial factor. Very clean and rich tones for only $153.00. I am amazed at the tones you can get with just one nob. I am planing on using it in my recording studio. I am not use to an amp with so few nobs and switches. I plan on using this with a Sure 57 mic for recording. I will Use it when I record the Tele sound demo for everyone. I'll have to look into some mods now, Thanks MoJo.

The less controls, the more *playing*, as opposed to fiddling, you will do, which is always a plus in my book!

Cool Phil - there is a guy in the UK that mods these and does some really good stuff with them.
I looked at them before I bought my Blackstar
Nice retro vibe going on there

Very cool!! I love the one knob thing. Although I love alot of pedals on the board I hate tweaking amps. Weird huh? Congrats Phil.

I have been using the little guy for a few weeks now and I continue to like it. With just one knob it is very versatile. The little knob does more than just make it loud. Any thing below the 1/2 make it pretty clean but when you you go about this it starts to distort a little. I find that there are about three positions that I like . Clock face settings:: I use 10, 12, and 2. I also find that a little re-verb really give it a wonderful sound for recording . I have been using my old Digiech DB6 but am thinking that one of the after market re-verb add-ons might be in my future.

www.gibson.com/en-us/Divisions/Gi....alve%20Special/Way too many knobs for this country boy, might add a re-verb knob in the future. I have not had a tube amp in several years. It will serve me well in my recording booth for electric and acoustic guitars. I use my Shure 57 for recording. Still looking for my sound with it but it is getting close.

Reverb is always nice to have being in a 3 piece. Just fills the gaps a bit more. I don't miss it too much on my Ceriatone amp, which I believe is due to the tube rectifier acting as a sustainer / compressor. I have a Shure PG57 we use for open mic during rehearsals and it's great. As good as, if not better than, a more expensive omni condenser mic we tried once.

I have a nice Rodie NTA condenser mic, but I like a tube pre AMP with the Shure 57 for instrument recording.

Did someone mention the G word on Fender Central?

If they did, I am sure they will repent when they have had more time to ponder, or another glass of scotch.

I have a little VJ combo which I love. I have done some big mods to it though, which actually are pretty easy to do on these amps. JJ Tubes, new Hammond OT, opened out the input stage/pre-amp part of the amp. Protective resistor on the output, and a master volume. Two other things you can do with these combos. 1) Run them into a big cabinet 2) Bend the bottom grille at the back inwards, so you can stow your mains lead away.
