Just set up my G&L which was supposedly set before I bought - if it was it was done by a tone deaf monkey.
Anyway greased the nut and bridge saddles with some vaseline.
Tightened up the tuning pegs, cable jack. Sprayed pots with contact cleaner
Changed the 9s for D'Addario 10s. Used the up and under method to lock the strings
Tuned up checked the truss rod neck looked OK nice and flat
Lowered the action on each string until slight buzzing and then move each saddle up 1/8 - 1/4 turn
Check and adjusted the intonation
Played it really hard for 20 minutes and the rechecked tuning, action intonation and readjusted if required. Checked for fretting out on bends and adjusted the action again if required
Just measured the action and I have got 1.6mm on the bass side going down to 1.3mm on the treble side at the 12th fret which I think is pretty good for a tele type
Plays like a dream now - played nice before but now it is as good as anything I have - much easier to set up then my strat
An 90 minutes well spent

wow HJ that sounds complicated. Anytime you are in New Jersey feel free to set up my strat. hasn't ever been set up like that!!!! Strats are harder then Teles to set up. My guitar teacher's brother is a guitar tech so I got him to give me a lesson on set-ups £25 well spent. Much better to get someone to show you then to just read up or look on the net. It is all simple and in the main reversible., although it does take time to do it properly. I had a real cheap although quite nice Vintage Tele copy and I spent loads of time messing with that and experimenting. When I finished it was a super guitar unfortunately I sold it to someone and it hasn't been played for 12 months or more. Just gathering dust - bloody shame. Wish I had kept it and experimented with different pick ups

There is nothing like a well set up guitar to put a smile on your face. I am in the middle of getting the parts of my new teli, hope to have everything by the end of this week so I can get it put together.
