Morning Mojo
You probably know that I am thinking of buying a small mixing desk and a mic to be able to record myself playing guitar and produce a decent recording.
Anyway my question to you is what set up do you use when recording your vids and also your songs? What goes between your guitar/mic and the final sound file on your computer? Including any software you use.
Cheers Les

Lesblues. I am thinking of buying a mic. The one im looking at is a Samson USB one, you can get them for about 60 quid from most guitar shops, reviews seem good. I will try and get a link for the one ive been looking at www.youtube.com/watch?v=U50Fdvivv7k

When recording videos, all I use is an old Sony Mini DV camcorder straight into an old PC via FireWire. MovieMaker does the rest. For recording MP3s, I use a Tascam DP 01 fx-cd and a cheap Shure microphone. I did recently purchase a condenser mic (MXL something or other) and a mic preamp from ART, but haven't used either... old habits and all that

I just wonder if it would be better to have the additional inputs a mixer offers in case I ever get the chance to record with another guitarist. You never know, after all you are not far from me

I think a good mic, a presonus firebox and a laptop is all you need!

Nope I hadn't seen that. What exactly does it do? btw I wish I was Les Paul (well not now he is dead of course) but it's Lesblues. I just googled it. It seems to be for using your guitar in a live situation without the hassle of cables. Correct me if I'm wrong.

For recording MP3s, I use a Tascam DP 01 fx-cd and a cheap Shure microphone. Mojo I just googled that Tascam thingymebob, that is quite a bit of kit. But not inexpensive, here in the UK the updated version is £365. Do you think that a recording studio like the tascam is a better bet than a small mixer and some decent software? oh and pourquoi?
