For the record... I buy what some would say is a lot of guitars. I buy 99% of them sight unseen. I have had a very low percentage of issues doing this.

I for the record have bought all mine on-line most have been OK some have been fantastic, one was awful I think it depends what you buy and where you buy it from. There are a couple of places where I would have no hesitation and some places I wouldn't buy from. I also wonder if the high end guitars are just of generally a better quality and are the quality is controlled better at the factory in the first place and the shops that sell them may take more care. However saying that a guitar tech that shall remain nameless once told be that the factory set op on a certain very expensive guitar was usually awful

This last weekend I went guitar shopping, looking for a Teli or maybe a 2nd acustic. The electrics were all very consistant and could be bought online with out much concern. The accustics were an other thing. This is a big guitar store with many models and prices. I played over 20 guitars, "wounderfull afternoon" the differences in the sound was astounding. Brand 1 Taylor Very consistant in sound, good fit and finish from the Big Baby to the 814 I played. I personally like some of ther mid range guitars the best a 214 sounded the best and was $1400 cheeper than the 814. Martin consistant sound and feel, fit as finish was ok but in the D 28 and 35 the fit and finish was not worth the $2000 + price tag. Some of there better sounding guitars were there composits. One very expensive carbon fiber guitar had no sole or bright accents to it, the low tones were excellent but the highs were absent. Epiphone Master built series all good for the money, Fender pretty good too(surprised me) Ovation very consistant from one model to the next. The best guitar for the money was the Yamaha's $350 dollars and higher. The $600 to $800 guitars were by far the best buys of the ones I played. I think buying an electric on line is OK but accustic have to be played first. I did the research at great sacrafic just for you guys.

I bought my Tele and Baja Tele online and both were great. I do try to play the guitar or something similar before buying but most stores will offer you the chance to return it if your not happy and exchange.
