Hello, Guys! I haven't been playing much this summer. I don't like to play when it gets too hot, so I've been avoiding picking up my guitar. I've had GAS, but I feel that I have too many guitars already (especially for the amount of time I've been playing lately).
I did find a way to remedy my GAS, though. I'm always window shopping on Craigslist, and recently I found a couple of things that interested me:
1. A five-piece drum kit (bass, floor tom, 2 regular toms, and snare drum, plus the hardware and an 18" cymbal, and two 14" high-hat cymbals).
2. A Digitech RP200 multi-effects guitar processor.
Both of these items were incredible bargains, and my plan was to get the drum kit for my son as an early birthday present, and get the RP200 for me as a belated birthday present. I already had an RP50, so I was thinking of getting the RP200 and possibly trading the RP50 as part of the deal to get the drum kit. Well, I contacted the RP200 seller and set up a time to go check it out. When I got there, he had it set up to demo it - with a Vox amp like Les has...and a Gibson Les Paul Traditional! I had never even seen a Gibson up close and personal, let alone played one! The seller hands the guitar to me and I play a few chords on it while changing presets on the RP200. He then takes the guitar and plays a few quick hot licks that blew my chords away (to demo the expression pedal on the RP200). Needless to say, this made my day! I bought a very nice, older U.S.A. made RP200 and got to play *cough, cough* a REAL Gibson! I also got cured of my GAS for Gibson! I have my two Epiphones, so I don't think I'll be buying the "Holy Grail" Gibson anytime soon (unless I find a used one for an INCREDIBLY low price)!
Now, back to my plan. It turns out the sellers of the drum kit were not into guitars, so I kept my RP50, but still got the drum kit. It's a great starter kit, as far as I'm concerned, and I got it for less than half of what it is advertised here (same brand):

Anyway, the kicker is (pun intended), that my six year old son loves his new drum kit (and he is rather good at it!), and for the two days since we have had it up, we have been jamming together! We're basically making noise, but it's a start! He tells me that now that he has his drums, we will jam every day!
NOTE: I really think that the drums are his instrument - he seems more excited with them than with the guitars I got him for Christmas!
