Man, I like the look of that! I've always wanted to try a mandolin. I don't buy one because I barely make time to play my guitars. I have my tenor banjo and a violin, and needless to say, they are almost always in their cases.

3 weeks with no guitar makes Rob go CRAZY! If I wasn't going away, or if I was going somewhere I could take my guitar (and not 4 people + 4 suitcases in one car), I probably wouldn't be buying a mandolin now. But this seems to be a good time to give it a go. I've wanted to give it a whirl. It's easy to pack away. Also it's not just a portable guitar where I'd otherwise reach for something larger. I prefer the sound over a uke, and I know a few songs that have a mandolin part. I'll of course keep you guys updated, even should I totally suck! This is the little fella I'm going for www.gregbennettguitars.com/ma2.html

Rob, I bet you'll love it! My next mando will be an octave one as there's simply not enough real estate on that neck for me on a regular one

If you get that, make sure and order the big bottle of chrome polish.

Looks like a regular mando scale - not an octave one - but it still looks fun. Johnson stuff is often lower quality, though, so this is definitely a try before you buy. Can't comment on price but that seems a tad high to me.

It looks like a lower end model compared to the Kentucky mandolin in one of your video reviews. I might just snatch that one up - It's close enough to home that I can go try it out (although I know nothing about them except that they are tuned like a violin).
