We can't stop, but we can encourage Compressor is doing its job. Handy that. I can play Wind Cries Mary now and the hammer ons actually come through the sound now instead of being lost in the chord sound. Need to tweak it, but a more balanced sound was the idea. With about mid way output, sustain on zip, and gate off it seems to do the business. I have a feeling there's some spank in there if I crank the gate and the sustain... and output.... tweaking is a saturday job tho. Just listening to it - I think I could actually drop the OD pedal, crank the output on the compressor, bump the gain on the amp a little, and get a pretty nice result too. But since the amp gives me 2 channels, plus the Ice 9 gives me a boost button, I can use several stages of gain which is kinda nice. Thats a right smart idea bro. One of the things that attracted me to the Hartman comp was the available gain. It will breakup if pushed and give you that almost clean with just a little bite tone. You and I think much alike on the pedal thing. I too am big on staged gain structure. To me there are two needed areas to deal with in gain. Clipping and amount. And the only way to practically get this is with a zillion pedals. ;D OK, maybe not a zillion but I'm thinking about 4 good gain pedals that vary clipping and gain amount does it for me. Maybe 5 would be better. ;D

I'll work on this more Saturday, but last sunday I was doing this with just working the OD. Fat but clean - key to the highway, bright lights big city, more traditional blues songs Amp on clean chan, 9'oclock gain, everything else 12oclock on amp, OD on with bass wound off and tone up in treble land gain and vol about mid, volume on gat wound back a little, mostly neck pickup work, boost engaged for solos Trebily with a bit of crunch - old rock songs, Johnny be Goode, My Babe (Thunderbirds) As above, but mostly bridge pickup (it's higher than my neck pickup), right hand attack close to bridge and played heavy, boost for solos SRV songs just on breakup, but not really distorted (texas flood, pride and joy) Amp on blues chan, 12oclock gain, rest of amp is dime'd (set to 10), OD on as above, Volume on gat wound up a bit, mostly neck pickup, boost for solos Gary Moore, Cream style songs, more distortion (Walking by myself, Sunshine of your love, Cocaine) Pretty much as above, with bridge pickup used depending on mood, volume on gat wound up, boost for solos We don't really drive more than Mr Gary does. I want something I can set and forget - I'll adjust my guitar's volume while playing and stomp on a box if I have to but that's about it. First time I did it of course I stomped on the on/off for the pedal instead of the boost... bah
