Guys, I've taken a Hwy 1 that was some kind of nasty looking and refinished it in automotive lacquer---just like Leo used to do it. I've had this guitar tested and approved by one of our local professional musicians. It's finished in burnt copper metalspeck. The metal only shows up when the light hits it. Think stage lights or sunlight. The neck is maple/maple with slight fret wear. The set up needs to be professionally done. I used my limited skills to straighten the neck and set the intonation. I just don't know how to set saddle/nut/pickup height. The electronics are Fender hot vintage noiseless. Same as Jeff Beck. The pickup covers now are the more aged looking "noiseless" logo variety (not in the photo.) So, I can give you parchment knobs (photo) or vintage cream knobs. I have both. The machines are vintage and I've added Fender straplocks. Whammy bar is included although I've set up the trem to lay flat. Oh yeah, it comes with a well-worn tweed case. Asking $780. Make an offer. I can't buy my Thinline until this guitar finds a new home! 615-310-8003

If you decide to watch Nashville's craigs list, you will find something sooner or later. If that happened, we could figure the rest out from there. I don't know about other cities but we get inundated with guitars for sale. Here's my latest offering. Had it checked out and approved by one of our local pros. nashville.craigslist.org/msg/1715400392.html

The Ibanez is very sweet--and not too pricey.
The real sleeper is the '57 reissue goldtop. It is HOT. It has seen its share of gigs (previous owner) and has the rash to prove it.
The Tele is just your basic Am Standard. The strat has been upgraded to near deluxe status (began as Am Std.)
I would love to have a thinline. Fender or G&L----but I've got to pay the bills. Damn money.
BTW, the reason I even took the photo was to try out a long-forgotten Olympus 4 megapixel SLR-type. The room was virtually dark. I let the camera figure out what to do with the shoe mounted flash. Worked out OK.

So, I got the kids together today for a photo session. They stood still, for the most part. Les was a little wiggly.

Also, believe it or not, number 2000 sand paper (soaked in water) will take those out. Want to practice first, though. Take off the pickguard and work under there to get the hang of it. NO CIRCLES. Sand with the grain. Very light, very wet. Then go to the compound (no silica.) Then use your favorite wax (no silica) or restoration polish.
You can buy pure carnuaba wax which is pricey but doesn't scratch.
Number 2000 is finer than steel wool and can be found at auto specialist stores.

D'Addario 10s More fullness, not too hard on my tender fingers. Near the end of his life, Stevie Ray was backing down to lighter strings because his hands couldn't take 13s anymore.

I have a pedal board with several nice effects and a Champ 600, etc.
THEN I discovered by Fender Vibro Champ XD. Tube amp. With built in effects. Low price. SOUND GREAT! No hum, that I can detect.
Check it out. I wish I had discovered it a long time ago.

It really is hit or miss. I know a pro who swears by Taylors (usually when I mention Martins.) I was at the guitar store a few months back. Tried out several Taylors. Very inconsistent--regardless of price.
Then I picked up a dinged-up Takamine. Fantastic tone. Felt great. Bought it for $200.

When you have the need for an amp, take a look at the old Music Man (Leo Fender) units. They show up on Ebay and sound fantastic.
Mine has that great 20-years-playing-in-a-smoky-bar odor.

Very nice!. Get a professional setup. Have the tremolo locked down and you'll be good to go. Money well spent.

Nashville, Tennessee, USA.
Been to Gruhn Guitar Shop (couldn't afford to touch anything.) Seen Gibsons being born. Bought my Crybaby from a member of the Little River Band. Bought my tube screamer from another studio musician. Bought my Music Man from one of our local guitar slingers (plays country one night and hard rock the next and teaches guitar every other day.)
None of it even comes close to seeing my 12 year old win the county spelling bee yesterday. One more win and it's off to DC.
