If you're looking around at price vs quality I would seriously look at g&l's. their legacy series asat guitars are very cool (I'm partial to the asat special with the big soap bar looking pickups). They're an excellent quality guitar and very good value tele style guitar. If you're particularly partial to the fenders... playing about a year I'd say go for the MIM tele. They're a nice guitar, and played through the same amp etc I doubt you'd notice much difference for practice. If you're playing live etc then you'll notice more difference but just practicing or little family things probably not enough to worry. I think you'll find more difference in the build quality rather than the sound. But both a very solid. As always, play before you buy, take your time. Compare the guitars you're looking at, take your amp to the store if you have one and run them both through your gear. Make sure your comfortable with the neck feel and that it feels good while playing. I also strum an electric guitar without being plugged in, make sure it rings for a while. play the notes on the 5th, 7th and 12th frets, make sure they all still ring well. Then go home, have a think, come back and try again and decide everybody's ears are a bit different.

Crates are not bad gear, but they're quite rare beasts over here. I have a 150 watt powerblock which is quite a basic amp head unit in features, but pretty handy in the inputs and outputs it has. They were going to make a more featured version, but don't know if they ever did. Sound isn't bad on its own either for a solid state. With the champ it should make a good sound as you're not driving too big a speaker, though 10s would probably sound a bit 'tighter' than 12s. Tube amps are a pretty gutsy beast even at 5w so you're probably fine

Hey gasman, happy new year! Yes I pop on occasionally to see if there's anything new going on, but seems to have been a bit quiet! Sort of reflects what's going on atm for me. I don't have any new gear, and while I'm still playing when I can, I'm on a bit of a hiatus doing much in public music wise. At a bit of a stage where I'm plotting.... Err..... Planning... Yes that's the word... What I'm going to do in this next stage of my life that seems to be happening. So once I'm settled again, should have a bit more uptime to throw some things together, but err yes have said that more than once too! :-)
How are things in gasman land?

Since it seems to be a bit quiet around here :-) I'm having a nosey through archtops again. Proguitarshop has some nice looking hagstrom Vikings that have my attention which I'm pricing up getting here. Failing that, might look at an epiphone 345. Probably not quite of the same quality, but certainly has some interesting sonic options to it. Course there's always the casino I've had a bit of a soft spot for, but I'm looking for more of a covered bucker sound with this one rather than a single coil / p90.

Simple one shot cover of The Civil Wars - 20 Years. A song I've really been enjoying lately, especially the fact that I can play it

I tend to use a variety of iPad apps for this purpose now. I can auto scroll the screen through a song, in some apps transpose, and easily put songs together in sets, favourites etc. Sometimes of course I find none of the apps have a particular song, or in some cases just bits of it. Then I resort to the interwebs. Only trouble with PDF is you usually have to do a bit of jiggerypokery if you need to change something in them, words, chords etc. But as a starting point I agree these look very good, and for learning or lessons very easy too.
Only thing I've noticed is that on any tab or chord listing I've seen on the web they have a disclaimer about this being for educational purposes and such. I imagine this is to avoid copyright infringement since you're using other peoples songs. You might wanna add this somewhere on your PDF.

Thought you had some issues with the behringer monitor? or was that a different box? It looks a really nice thing to have I've tried a few apps for lyrics and chords. Just now trying onsong and it's very cool... it might be my new app for the job. Easy to read, nice and consistent sizing.

Awesome man, just awesome. I think you took exactly the right approach to this, don't overplay, simple combo guitar and amp, do a few things for a bit of confidence. Fantastic that you can cross one off the bucket list too As you know but I'll share the story a bit more anyway I recently had the privilege to play at a friends wedding. I picked up some new guitar strings and my dean resonator for the occasion. I also picked up an $80 guitar strap (leather, tan colour, real nice one) and redid the strap buttons so they're brass so I could at least look good I was nervous as all heck playing on my own instrumentally with no backup, no singing. I certainly bluffed my way through it in places! Playing Live High (Jason Mraz) and Sparks Fly (Taylor Swift) during the ceremony, neither usually in my repertoire. For Sparks Fly the bride only wanted the chorus. While I was playing I thought... hmmm this is probably getting boring... so I alternated between strumming and picking and tried to give a bit of a feeling difference. I was very worried, but the bride watched the DVD recently and said it was fantastic so I'm pretty chuffed. I also gave the photographer a devil horn sign so there's a photo for the collection I also got positive comments afterwards. You've reminded me I had on my bucket list to play in front of a real audience - so I think I've knocked one off too BTW also on their is to get with some of you guys for a jam so no being strangers hahaha

I'm also using several apps for lyrics, chords, tabs etc but haven't really settled on one I like yet.

Ok for those of you who don't scroll down (this is probably too low also!) I updated myself to an iPad (bye bye ipod, err when I get around to it) and mucked around with Garageband for a lil bit. Still using inbuilt mic which is good, tho I actually think the ipad mic picks up too much (the speaker arrangement appears quite different to the ipods / iphones). Added other tracks using the Garage band. I think I wreck it more than garageband does but enjoy hahaha mojocaster.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=vidsclips&action=display&thread=1137

Did a cover of portobello belle recorded entirely using iPad - one track for me and guitar on the built in mic. Drums bass organ and piano provided by garage band. Crashed just as I finished the first time through which reminded me to save on occasion (which you do by backing out to the song list). Anyway here tis soundcloud.com/midnightchef/portobello-belle-garage-band
