I gave the VOX AC4TV and Fender Pro Jr. their final test drives today and came home with the Fender!
It will be loud for home use but I plan to stick a pedal in front of it for crunch at reasonable volumes. If volume still proves to be an issue I can just buy an attenuator. I could always return it and grab a Blues Jr. but I like the Pro Jr. muuuuch better and will happily go the attenuator route if I have to.
They normally retail for $419 but the store did a price match at $375 and then gave me $80 as trade-in value on my VOX Pathfinder 15R so the amp cost $295 before taxes.
I won't bother posting any pictures since we all know what these little tone monsters look like. Time to have some dinner before introducing my Les Paul to her new partner in crime ('crime' being a pretty apt description of my playing abilities!)

Nice looking guitar!
I plan to buy a 335 styled guitar myself one of these days. If they are good enough for the likes of Chuck Berry and B.B. King, they are more than good enough for me.

Oh yeah I know it would have to be loud to get any kind of breakup but I figured I would just use pedals for that.

Does anyone here have any experience with the Fender Pro Jr.? I am thinking of grabbing one but the store I deal with had to order me one in so that I can test-drive it but it hasn't arrived yet so, in the meantime, I figured I would ask for opinions here.

Does anyone here have any experience with the VOX AC15C1? I have tried them in the stores and like them enough to be considering buying one (my Marshall Class 5 is on its way out the door because of rattling issues) but would like to hear from anyone who has more time on them than just test driving them in a music store. I was thinking of a lower wattage tube amp but would take the AC15 because I can use the master volume to keep the overall volume down to a reasonable level. I am not in a hurry to buy one as my Pathfinder 15R will get me by for now but was hoping someone might be able to offer some opinions on this amp.

I'm betting it would be a fun song to play!

Beautiful, Colchar! I love how the front AND back looks, very nice grain showing through! Let us know your impressions on ease-of-play and overall differences after owning a Strat for a while...that would be interesting. Congratulations and enjoy her in good health! Thanks, and I will give an update later this week once I've had some more time to play her. I will say right off the bat though that I prefer the scale of the Gibson as it just seems more comfortable to me and even some chords that I would find to be a pain are now much easier to play. But, as I said, more later once I've had more time with her.

Thanks! I just called Gibson to get some specific info on the guitar and the rep told me it was a '50s neck but he also told me this is a Standard and not a Traditional (the store is selling them as Traditionals)! But he did say that it is tough to look up information for models sold outside of the US and he will have to look up specifics for me and will email me the info. When I told him the guitar weighed a lot more than any Standard in the store and felt heavier even than some of the Traditionals he said that special runs might have different specs so it is possible that this is a weight relieved, as opposed to chambered, Standard or that they are not even weight relieved (ie. a solid body Standard!). I guess I will have to wait for his email to find out more information. Turns out Gibson's record keeping is just a little off. My guitar is a Traditional and definitely has the '57 Classic pickups. I weighed her and she came in at 10lbs exactly.

Here is my first Les Paul and, in fact, my first Gibson of any kind. She is a 2010 Traditional Faded Honeyburst. I checked a few locations before choosing this one and did so in part because of the amount of grain that is visible as I didn’t find any others with anywhere near the same amount. All of the other ones I saw have had 2011 serial numbers but mine was made on December 2nd 2010 which probably puts it right near the start of the production run (these were produced for a music retailer up here in Canada and only 200 were made) which might explain why mine shows so much more grain than any of the others did. Despite being weight relieved, as all Trads are, she is actually quite heavy but I haven’t had a chance to check the actual weight with a scale yet. I’m naming her ‘Jessica’ in honour of Dickey Betts and the Allman Brothers Band song of the same name. Some of the pictures aren't great but my camera has been acting funky so they are the best I can do at the moment. I'll have to get my sister-in-law, who is a professional photographer, to take some photos of her for me.

Any chance of getting a video lesson for I Can't Explain by The Who? I think it only has three chords (four at most) but a lesson including the strumming pattern (I think I might have that figured out) would be awesome.

Below is a link to a thread on another forum in which these models are discussed as a couple of other Canadian members of that forum have bought them already. There are pictures on the first page and second page but a couple of posts down on the third page of that thread there are photos of one with some flame to the top which is quite similar to the one I'll be getting. I love how unique the colour of these are. www.mylespaul.com/forums/gibson-les-pauls/134529-traditional-faded.html

Man, that GAS bug really bit you hard lol! Yeah, it hit me in the worst way! When I think about it though I suppose I was always building up to a Les Paul as it was always my favourtie guitar and most of my favourite guitarists played them. Heck, I am not really a fan of Gold Tops but want one because that is what Dickey Betts of Allman Brothers fame (and my favourite guitarist) plays! I wouldn't be in a position to get a Gibson right now were it not for the financing they are offering so I am just getting lucky that I am able to get one now as opposed to sometime in the future. I will still get a Tele at some point and will then be set with my acoustic, a Lester, and a Tele. With those three guitars there won't be any genre that I can't cover adequately and I'll have no reason to buy anything else. At that point my GAS will all be directed towards amps...and God help me when that happens!

It looks like I am about to get my first ever Gibson, most probably a Les Paul!
Our main music retailer up here in Canada has a limited run of 200 Les Paul Traditional Faded models that are currently selling for $700 less than the Traditionals normally sell for. Although I can't really afford one they are offering some pretty good financing on them and, if I were to pay it off within a year, I would pay virtually nothing in interest.
So instead of swapping the neck on my Strat, I am now selling that guitar and will be putting the money I get for it down as a down payment on the Lester. I had arranged to swap my Strat neck with a rosewood fretboard to someone else for their neck with a maple fretboard but I have canceled that (the guy totally understood why I was canceling and was fine with it) and the friend in the US who was handling the swap for me has already shipped my neck back to me. I should receive it tomorrow or Friday. Once I put my original neck back on I will sell it privately (a buyer is already arranged and we are meeting early next week) and, as I said, I will use that cash for the Lester. Even if that deal falls through the store has offered me much more than I expected as trade in value for my Strat so, regardless of where it goes, the Strat is on the way out and I'll have my first Gibson by the end of the month!
I am going to take a look at SGs as well but I do not find them nearly as comfortable to play as I do Les Pauls so, although the payments on a SG would be slightly easier to handle, I really think I am going to get the Les Paul as the payments aren't that much more per month.
I can hardly freakin' wait to get my first ever Gibson, especially if it turns out to be my first Les Paul!
As soon as I get it I will post a NGD thread with pictures of my new baby!
