When I'm picking I generally use my thumb for the top three strings and the index 'johnny cash' and ring finger for the other three ( in order ). This generally applies to most tunes ( stairway, street spirit and everybody hurts are three I use this for ), though occasionally I'll move the three fingers up or down a string or two.

hi everyone, I may be quiet, but I've been lurking quite often, still playing away, even starting to get the handle on some riff's ( a big thing for me).
I'm having difficulty with barre chords though, and its really starting to hold me back. Partly it's cause they're difficult part because I don't really understand chord construction ( I suppose something I should really learn ).
I was wondering I Mojo could oblige and give a simple lesson with a couple of simple barre chords that make up a song, it would really make my year......
Regards, Verb

I'm just a poor boy from a poor family...... Yeah - you are poor like I am thin and a tee totaller You are in the "Scottish Richest Landowner List" I read - you are just careful with the money you take off the poor people of Fife with your taxes and rents. You might kid this lot Dude but you can't kid a kidder (as we say in sunny Manchester) awww, spare him this life from this monstrosity .....

Ok, fair point I suppose. In my defence I was very young at the time. Anyone remember "everyone was kung fu fighting"? First tune I ever bought. :-) lol its not that bad, the first song I ever bought was "the chicken song" , closely followed by "star trekking" and "santa claus is on the dole" , as it happens I'd love to try and find the santa claus one It had a great 'B' side

yeah I'll be happy to on this note, I was plugging in my webcam to my PC and it turns out that my webcam is not vista compatible I'll try to do the recording using my XP machine, but the quality probably wont be great. If it works I'll post what i can do on 'man who sold the world' as well as one of my own pieces. [edit] got the webcam working on my ol' semi-broken xp machine, now just trying to get set up so i can record video and sound at the same time ( for some reason movie maker isn't capturing video, and the packaged software with the webcam isn't capturing sound ) [/edit]

Are we all having a mid life crisis? Are we trying to re-live our youth? if it was all my guitars would sit in the corner unused I only play so much 'cause the kiddies love it, but means I can't turn the amp up and rock out very often carnegie hall man I've only just got comfortable using an F chord, and I'm still getting it wrong on occasion ( been playing for almost 4 years now )

I'll try to avoid anything that mojo has done, so apologies if I list one here: Imperial march ( AkA. Vaders theme ) ( John Williams ) street spirit ( Radiohead ) Unisex Chipshop ( Bill Bailey ) Whiskey in the jar ( folky, not thin lizzy - love to be able to do that riff myself) Everybody hurts ( REM ) Jesus don't want me for a sunbeam ( Vasselines, made famous by nirvana ) Probably more that I haven't put down so I'll edit this when I think of them. if you want one of the above put on you tube just ask Also I can probably do a lesson on "man who sold the world" I know how its done just not up to speed yet Lastly feel ree to post any songs that you may know that you'd be willing to make a lesson for.

Do you have a link for this vid? I've not seen it yet. currently my daily practice is a bit complex, since I practice on my 6 string ( learning new songs ) and the 12-string I have ( building up skill on the songs I know) and my electric ( tuned to open G ). I usually try a couple of scales then some finger picking ( usually "streetspirit" and "everybody hurts", though I'm learning "man who sold the world" ). I try to learn one song at a time, but I've usually got 2 or 3 songs that still need work ( for instance I'm still learning "unisex chipshop" by Bill Bailey since I can't sing along to the middle bit ). each sess always included "whiskey in the jar" and " imperial march (Vaders tune)" since the kiddies love them so ( that and the fact they kick you outta the Sith if you can't play your own theme )

I use a cheap condensor mic I got from maplin, plugged into my comp. in the case of acoustic guitar its best to try to get the miv as close as you can to the guitar, the standard place is a couple of inches away from the hole, though by moving it up and down relative to the neck you can adjust the type of sound you get. closer is better as a rule.
I use the same mic for recording from the amp , in the same case point it as close to the speaker of the amp as you can, in this case slowly crank up the volume slowly, it's rare but I've seen comps broken from a mic picking up a ( in this case seriously ) too loud amp.

It has 11 different 'verbs to play with including a '63 Spring. There is only one Verb, it's a '78 Scot ( IE me! )
