mojotwanger.wordpress.com/2009/11/14/mojotwanger-heavy-cross-original/An original song, written and recorded today about the importance of finding solace in music, whether as a listener or a performer. Human emotion sometimes cannot be explained and expressed using words, but music can be both a catalyst and a release mechanism that can bring peace of mind. Away, that is.
Anyway, last night I was feeling sort of morose and decided to head down to the guitar room to see if that could be a source of solace.
I first picked up my Lentz T and plugged her straight into the Swart AST. Tonal bliss.
After about 40 minutes, I switched the Thorn Jr 90, and again, tonal bliss. No pedals, just the guitar and the amp.
I gotta say, I foresee more Lentz and Thorn guitars in my future as soon as I get back on my feet.
Totally blown. Away.
(And they say the best jokes are the shortest ones...)

Bought me a digital piano... ... should be delivered today.
Didn't get anything fancy, just a Casio CDP 100 so that I can play the piano late at night without waking up my wife and kids.
See, I have this little guilty pleasure of playing the piano while sippin' on some Scotch, late at night. I don't know what it is about the two occupations going so well one with the other, but somehow it works for me.
This piano cost me $320 shipped, but they are surprisingly good, especially the the weighted keys.
I'll have a more thorough review later

I have been on a wicked songwriter kick lately, almost exclusively playing acoustic guitar and singing tunes by Lyle Lovett, John Prine, Guy Clark, Townes Van Zant, Kris Kristofferson, Jamey Johnson, Emmylou Harris, Tony Joe White, Blaze Foley, Iris Dement, Johnny Cash, Waylon, Willie, Shooter J, Gillian Welch, Steve Earle et all.
Man, amazing how a good song can stand on its own w/ just an acoustic and a voice - even when it's me playin' and singin'.
Some of the words in there are enough to make you cry (Hello in There, The Randall Knife, Goodbye, Clay Pigeons...), and others just are silly and funny (Inspite of ourselves, Crazy as a Loon, Homegrown Tomatoes...)
And then there is John Prine, who can make you laugh out loud in one song, and then nail you with vulnerability inside of the same darn song (Jesus, the missing years or Sam Stone for example.)
I realize that many here probably don't care for this type of music, but in many ways, these songs, listening to them and singing them, have helped me tremendously in the past couple of weeks through a very difficult time in my life, through their honesty, their nakedness, their open vulnerability.
The power of songs, once again in the limelight of my life, such as it is.

Another wonderful Guy Clark song - though I seem to recall he may have had a co-writer for this one. Anyway, as an immigrant myself, and a lucky grandson to boot, this song tugged at my heart strings. Emmylou Harris also has a stunning version of this song. Anybody here local to me (Southern Maine)? Do you like Americana music? Guy Clark, John Prine, Emmylou Harris, et all? Come jam with me! I'm looking to start a band... bit.ly/4oySn0

Wrote and recorded this song in an hour today after a full day of work. Just came home, kissed me wife, went down to the studio, picked up the acoustic guitar, started strumming. Came up with the first line, then the rest followed like unraveling the yarn from a wool sweater. What a fun song! From the album “Battle Studies” – which, by the way, you should buy – this song is a ton of fun to play. This is my personal rendition of it, for fun. I will be uploading a “how to play this song” to threechordguitar.com soon. Gear used: Ovation Elite T TC Helicon Harmony G mojotwanger.wordpress.com/2009/11/18/john-mayer-who-says/

... what has the world come to?
A friend of mine wrote as a joke update:
"I want to be held."
Another replied to his post by typing:
"I just want to be sedated."
So I went ahead and wrote a song, the first line of which is:
"I wanted to be held, loved or sedated."
Funny where inspiration can come from!

I have been playing my Swart AST exclusively as of late, whether at home, at rehearsal or on stage. The Merc's been sitting there in my guitar room, unused.
Yesterday, I plugged my Collings 290 into the Merc just to see what would happen.
Fun is what happened
What great amps they are! This said...
... the Swart is still my #1 amp
