Uncool happenings: Our bassist quit a few weeks ago and took the entire PA system with him. He'd been wanting to go a different direction the last year or so and that's cool. What we do isn't for everyone. He leaves with our blessing and we are still friends. Cool Happenings: The studio called today and our masters are finished and ready to pick up. We just need to finalize the artwork and get the replications made and send in the stuff to CDbaby so we can get the electronic distribution going. I'm rebuilding our website and it looks pretty good. Hopefully have that go live in the next few weeks. AND....this weekend we are rehearsing with a new bass player. He spent 15 years playing with Bugs Henderson (Texas Blues icon) and has shared the stage with the likes of the Allman Brothers. Very cool guy and I have high hopes that this will work out. Sound like the fit is good on both ends. You can see him on YouTube in any of the Bugs Henderson stuff dated from around 2009 and back. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers on the PA system. There are a few open doors. Just need to walk through the right one.

shame about the PA, hope you get something sorted soon. Sounds like very good news on the new bass player front. Could mean you go down a bluesier route? Keep us posted.

RK - honestly that sounds like a good move for everybody more than an uncool happening. It can be a pain bringing any new member up to speed (even a really good one like it sounds you're rehearsing!). If someone's heart isn't in the music, then they need to move on or it can cause problems in a band. I imagine if he's been wanting to go for a year, it's been noticeable.
PA Systems can be troublesome tho... they're finicky little buggers, a bit like laptops. Stick to the major brands and you're usually ok, but there's always lemons even in the good bunches. We're using a Behringer one with some Warfedale speakers, but the first one of those mixers we had went boom. The speaker (speakon?) cables the guy sold us were to blame we think as they rewired the ends). Actual Warfedale mixers I've heard good things about. The rehearsal studio we use has lots of Warfedale gear, seems to work pretty well for not stupidly high end stuff. You can get into mega bucks pretty easily.

Thanks guys....
HJ, it's really cool you have some Bugs stuff all the way over there in the UK. I was in a band that opened some shows for him back in the 80s and he's a very laid back cat. I saw him a couple of years ago at a guitar show and we spoke for a few minutes. Still goin strong.
Les, the conversation has already taken place about the bluesy stuff. If Keith comes on board we'd be crazy not to break out some blues we've been sitting on for a while. Hope you dig it.
Rayden, you're probably right. Even though it kind of stung a bit because we've been friends so long and he was a founding member, it really is all for the best. He's happier in his current gig and we are making some great strides forward in the talent area if Keith comes on board. On the PA, we're looking at going with QSC powered mains and a Mackie or Yamaha board. We can get (barely) with 16 channels but 24 would be more comfortable. Since you're using some Behringer stuff I'd like to ask if you've heard the B212D's. We're considering using them as monitors as they're powered, 2 way and most of all pretty inexpensive. If they're at all reliable and sound halfway decent I think they would be a good choice for our budget. The former bassist also owned the trailer so our budget of 6K has to cover everything.

RK - Haven't heard their speakers unfortunately. Both our singer and our studio uses Warfedale speakers. My general opinion of Behringer gear is cheap (yay) with good sound and reasonable build quality (read: they often use plastic, but it's not the flimsy stuff), but overly complicated by thinking like engineers. Even with my IT background I've failed to comprehend some of their guitar gear! Shouldn't be a problem with a powered speaker tho (I hope!) Warfedale isn't too bad in cost (over here anyway) so I'd probably suggest you check them out too

Tex, he is really good but can't get hold of much stuff over here. I have got That's The Truth and Legendary Jams and been looking around for some other stuff - although I have found Amazon are stocking some export CDs now[/quote]

RK, Good luck with all the changes, got to watch out for those bass players. Let me know when the CD is ready, looking forward to hearing it. If you know a wood worker check this web sit out. www.billfitzmaurice.com I have made the subs ( Titan's, mine are 14 in wide ) and the DR 250 for the main speakers. They are about $200-300 per speaker to build. They weight 40 # and have great sound. They are called folded horns and have a lot of power with little amp watts required. My mobile PA uses 2 - 500 watt amps and I rarely run them above 1/2. Max volume is 106 Db. Double the number of speakers and you can get very loud in a hurry. The claims of how good they sound and work are all true, I was very skeptical and now I am a believer. They have several models from hard to build like the DR series to others that you can build in a weekend. A lot of very smart guys on the site. Way over my head. Chech it out.

Here is a pictures of my mobile rig, the only thing I would do different is to make the subs wider, mine are 14 inches wide so they fit in my small truck. If I were making them again I would make them 20 in, It would give them a bigger punch. This system is great for 50 to up to 150 people, double the cabs and you are up to over 300 people even outside. My total cost was about $1000- $1200 I built them 3 years ago.
