For all those Rugby fans out there we got word today. Christchurch stadium has been deemed unfit for play, and the city is impacted too much to play there. If anybody is seriously surprised by this, it's not me! The semi final games that were being held in Christchurch are going to be held instead at Eden Park in Auckland, as Dunedin does not have the capacity (accommodation wise) to handle that number of people. The pool games that were being held in Christchurch have not had confirmed destinations yet, but it's being suggested they are being spread around. Some in Dunedin (which is good for Sth Islanders, yes there is some rivalry between our 2 islands!) and others in Wellington, and Auckland. We are still go!

Bad news for Christchurchers, but glad things are sorted.

Well we love our rugby down here. But when you consider there's still basic services like water and power not working to some homes in Christchurch is it really feasible to divert attention from those things to look after the stadium? They really could make no other decision.

Sorry if my last post sounded Like I was being blazé. What I meant was that because the people of Christchurch (like most New Zealanders) are so passionate about rugby, they will be disappointed the stadium will not be fit to use. Naturally they have much more important things to worry about at this time.

Not at all Les, you're fine My tone was more directed at the length of time it took them to make this decision, and likely paid a bunch of engineers, politicians, IRB people, Rugby bosses here etc etc money to go look and assess what was happening. Unfortunately they aren't on this forum of course It seems like a pretty obvious decision to me - even if the stadium was fine, everything else isn't!

It's a shame Jonah Lomu wont be appearing. Did you hear about the time the All blacks were playing England and after the half time whistle blew they found they were ahead 70-0, Jonah Lomu having scored 10 tries? The rest of the team decided to head for the pub instead of playing the second half, leaving jonah to go out for the second half on his own.
"No worries" Jonah told them. "I'll join you later and tell you what happened.
After the game Jonah headed for the pub where he told his team mates the final score was 107-3. "what?" screamed the irate captain. "how did you let them get 3 points?" Jonah replied apologetically, "I was sent off with 10 monutes to go."

Ha Jonah is a bit past his prime these days, but I always remember it taking half the opposing team to bring him down There were rumblings in the press about bringing back Tana Umaga, but mid 30's is getting on in years for a rugby player. That said the Bring Back Buck (being Wayne 'Buck' Shelford) movement is still going strong since the early 90's

Although I would hate to be in their shoes if they don't win this time. Especially on their home turf!

Ha! yeah if we're not in the finals for the Rugby World Cup when we're the hosts I think I'll leave the country for a little while so I don't have to hear it I watch our guys play, like I watched the All Whites play in Fifa last year at 4 in the morning. But I'm not that big a rugby fan and the press finger points for weeks whenever the AB's lose
