I was playing this solo acoustic gig, and as always, opened the show to the audience's requests.
Out of nowhere, this guy asks for Billie Jean.
That's right, Michael Jackson's Billie Jean.
Well, I did ask for requests, so I took a minute or two to figure out chords and away we went, almost as a joke. Wouldn't you know it, the audience loved it. So now, I *have* to do the song because they always ask for it. Hey, if it makes them happy, right?
I recorded a first-take version for fun the other day.
You've left me speechless, and I played the song through twice. That is a fantastic take on that song for solo acoustic. You can hear the original there, the strum pattern is really doing the job. I'm not surprised they liked it - I sure did
"I was told when I started to play that simple music is the hardest music in the world to play. And blues is simple music."
- Albert Collins
Thanks Rob, I appreciate the kind words... it was a fun request at the time, didn't expect it and thought I should try my best to come up with somethin'. that's why I no longer come with a set list, btw. I enjoy these "happy accidents" far too much.
