Love this band doing this song. If you like Dr Feelgood you need to check out Nine Below Zero. HJ turned me on to both bands in his never ending quest to get me listen to Artists who are not yet dead.

lol - well most I listen to are dead too so I'm in the same boat as you As a guitarist in this format 4 piece (vocal+harp, guitarist, bass, drum) I'm trying to get the levels right in solo + rhythm. Most blues bands tho have a keyboard player to hold the rhythm down - even SRV who is a 1000% fatter guitarist than me (soundwise people!) got one. Our band usually ends up with holes in the solo. What I'm starting to learn is you don't necessarily kick up the solo to try and fill in the space left by no rhythm instrument. More often I hear them backing off the rhythm parts so it's more short chords and small riffs with a fat sound, rather than big bar chord wailing with a thinner sound. Less notes played fatter seems to beat more notes played thinner. Then when you hit the solo you only have to up the volume a little and you get a nice balanced song with no holes. Thanks for reading, here's a nice version of Walking By Myself for your time www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfQjzTwrMM0

Actually found another version (which I suspect is the original but don't have time to check at the moment) of Walking by Myself by Jimmy Rogers. Very cruisy.
Also listening to an album at the moment I picked up while on holiday - Dr Feelgood Singles - The U.A. Years. It's pretty cool. Especially enjoying the early Wilko Johnson stuff. Definitely going to have to check him out more.
