Well in just over an hours time I will be wending my way north to see Les, Lady Ann and later tonight to see Nine Below Zero. I have got my phrase book and passport The Blues Mobile is ready to go. It's 250 miles to Dunfermline, I got a full tank of Diesel, half a pack of biscuits, it's dark and I am wearing sunglasses This trip very nearly didn't happen the weather in the UK has been really bad and the main motorway I need to go on was blocked for two days but it should be clear now Les warned me that Strachan Towers is a large house and can be little cool and draughty in the winter It is also quite hard to find so he has sent me a picture of Strachan Towers to help me find it . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Strachan Towers in Summer Apparently Lady Ann does the gardening

What a gig. The venue was excellent, a 400 year old coaching Inn near St Andrews, Scotland. The room was small there could not have been more than 60 people in the audience and it was a sell out!
Nine Below Zero were on cracking form. They played for about an hour before taking a break, they came back for another hour and then announced that after the gig finished we were all invited to join them in the lounge for an impromptu acoustic set, which turned into a sing-along. It was late by the time we left and we had a 40 mile drive to get back home. But we had huge grins on our faces, it had been fantastic. In fact we were very tempted to go back tonight (Sunday) it was that good.
At the start of the night they said they were going to play songs from their album "Live at the marquee" as it was the 30th anniversary. However Dennis Greaves, guitarist and Lead vocalist, had been perusing the Rock and Roll memorabilia that adorned the walls and not long into the set just decided on the spur of the moment that they would play a song inspired by the photos/posters he was looking at. He did this a few times and the rest of the band followed him as if they had thoroughly rehearsed each song. It was brilliant.
Interestingly, Dennis had two electric guitars with him, A Stratocaster and a Gibson ES 335. Which one do you think he used the most? 1 guitar only featured in 2 songs in a 2 hour set, which one do you think that might have been?
Photos to follow. We currently have a technical problem!

We rock baby - were playing "Born Under a Bad Sign" Les was doing lead hence the guitar face and I was doing rhythm hence D7. I am to hardcore for a strap, straps are for girlies We were doing the ZZ Top dance! We just needed some furry guitars What great weekend I have seen NBZ at least 15 times (the first time 30 years ago when they supported The Who) but they are getting better with age. Dennis Greaves 13 year old son even played the drums on one song - absolutely brilliant I think me and Les are going to have many adventures yet and we are working on a duet - problem is Les has no sense of timing and I have no sense of rhythm
