I just updated my computer, replaced my processor with an AMD Phenom II X4 processor, 3.4 GHz Quad core. and an ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/ USB3 mother board and 6 Gig of RAM DDR3.
It is just amazing how fast it is compared to my old set up. I can now see MOJO's mug in just an instant. My next step is to go to 64 bit operating system. I will be testing the recording soft ware tomorrow. Now if Santa brings me a new 20 in Monitor I will be very happy. Last year it was my usual bag of coal. Might want to change my ways.

did a similar upgrade 6 months or so ago from an old XP 2500 DDR system to something similar, slightly lower spec. Although I had to replace all the guts, and went through the pain of a total rebuild, the difference was fantastic

Don't talk to me about bloody computers
Mine just gave me the blue screen of death and wouldn't boot in any mode. I did an OS reinstall and it kep crashing.
Turns out the CPU was getting hot and shutting the PC down on overtemp
On investigation the heatsink fans were clogged with dust and weren't cooling.
All is well but the moral of the story is open up your PC every once on a while and make sure your CPU cooling fan is working and heat sinks clean of dog hair, dust and general crap - especially if your PC is on the floor!

Fella's, this is an english speaking forum and we would appreciate a translation when you get around to it. Don't feel too bad RK. I worked with computers for over 20 years and I still don't know what they are talking about (not quite, anyway)! ;D Granted, I was an applications software guy (never got into the guts of them), but still, I feel bad for not knowing all of this tech stuff of which they speak! I've been out of the loop for over four years though.

Nice thing about all the new parts is that they are plug and play. Every part has a certain shaped plug in, So plug them all in , if it fits it is in the correct spot, cross your fingers and plug it in. If it lights up and there's no smoke you are golden. All the drivers are on the CD or DVD and it is "do this now do that" and you are done. I still remember seeing my first computer in 1972. It was in a room that was 10 feet by 10 feet. tubs wire and racks of parts. No monitors only a thing that looks like a typewriter and printed out the result on paper. Yes they had invented paper by then .

After RK's comment about 'speaking english' I was going to talk about plugging the right 'legos' into the right spots, then clicking next until you're done. That's 90% of what PC building is these days. I don't quite have tube and punchcard experience, but I do date back to cassette tapes. I remember waiting an hour for this particular game to load (Mercenary: Escape from Targ). If you held your mouth the wrong way, the game would fail and you had to start again. Fortunately it was a pretty good game. I also remember a slightly more modern time when I had to reboot my pc for different memory setups so certain games / programs would run. I made up batch files that essentially automated this. Ironically a reboot back then took a tiny fraction of the time it does now. I can't even imagine putting up with that sort of nonsense now.... I burst a damn blood vessel when I buy software that doesn't immediately work. I have to patch your software that I've just downloaded off your website but are too lazy to update? You want me to reboot my pc because you're changed a value of such and such and can't just reload your software? Your printer driver is HOW MANY HUNDRED OF MEG?!?! HULK SMASH!!! ...... I'll remember this is a guitar forum soon I promise

Saying all that I just tested my music recording system out, and you guessed it, I doesn't work like it did before. I use Sonar 8.5 as the software and an M Audio Delta 1010 as my interface. So I am updating the Sonar to 64 bit this week end then I will start figuring out the problems, Hope I have enough Scotch on hand to get this all done. working with interfaces is sometimes a real pain.

Ironically a reboot back then took a tiny fraction of the time it does now. This is sooo true! I have an older machine running on Windows 98 and it boots up in a flash. This computer I am typing on now is not much newer (Windows 2000), but it still takes a lot longer to boot! I'm happy with what I have for now (although I like XP). I'm used to taking it slow (I learned on an old Teletype machine that took punched paper tape instead of cards!)...Ah, the good ol' days! ;D

The smell of success is soooo sweet. Just finished the fixes on the the Bios of the mother board and all is well with my recording system once again. The clicks and the back ground fuzz is gone. We are in the middle of a blizzad tonight so I will do the 64 bit thing an other day.

Yeah, I just bought a laptop which is about twice as fast as my desktop, and then I bought a new desktop which is twice as fast as my old desktop. It's nice cause my new HP desktop can go from off to Facebook in 30 seconds. It's a Phenom Quad Core too.
Good stuff!!!
