How hard is it to build a guitar from parts?
Anyone done it on here - I bet Mojo has
When I was looking for wiring looms for Lesblues I came across a Thinline Telecaster body and got to thinking
As a first project
Buy a finished body, a decent neck, a pre wired scratch plate and put it all together
You would have to be able to solder and do rudimentary woodwork.
I would have thought the biggest difficulty would be the fihish but if I buy a pre finished body
Any thoughts?

It takes about 45 minutes from start to finish with the gear you mentioned, unless something goes terribly wrong

What about, for example, getting the neck adjustment right for the action, intonation etc, isn't that complicated to do?

No MrB that is really just setting up which I am pretty comfortable with - and something you need to learn if you do what you are thinking of doing Buy a cheapo from Ebay and have a play as Mojo says loads of info in books and on the 'net

I really want to do a Tele, what are the downfalls of using say MIM or CIJ Fender parts to do this? How much difference between those and MIA stuff. Particularly bodies. I would be a little more selective on the neck and pups.

I bet you could have Rees build you an amazing Hill Billy guitar that would please even you

There will be no HBGs in this household. MrB - I think I may save for another custom not necessarily a Rees but the quality of this guitar is so good for the money. But I may look at a self build - but then you know my situation at the moment - Time or lack of it is a huge problem

I think you are right to look at another custom. Value for money is one very good reason. However how will you pick your next Luthier and more importantly for those of us who watch from the sidelines, what type of guitar will you have them make? How will you surpass the one you have just purchased?
These and any other questions I can think up need answered before you commit to anything imho ;D

Aha, moving ever closer to the holy grail of guitars - a hollow body. It's only a matter of time before you succumb to what you know is the right guitar for a Blues player such as yourself.
