I've been using Martin SP's on my acoustic guitar forever but I have never been happy with string life or the top end harshness. I've tried a few others, Elixers included but they sound a bit muddy to my ears. I put a set of Cleartone's on about a week ago and WOW. The sound great. Very even sounding with LOTS of projection compared to the others. So far I can only tell a little bit of difference in the sound in playing it all week. If your looking around for some acoustic strings you might give these a shot. They are a little pricey but if they last as long as they are touted to then it's worth it to me. Cheers

I'll have to give them a try. Stopped using Elixer myself about 5 mo ago for the same reason.

I must admit I don't play my acoustics very often but I tried loads of different strings Elixer, DR, D'addario but always went back to Martin SPs I might give Cleartone a try I hated the DR strings - I bought a couple of packs too and they weren't cheap

I tried a set of the electric nickel wound DR's too. I didn't see what all the fuss was about to be honest but there are guys that swear by them. To each his own........As long as it agrees with my way of thinking. ;D ;D ;D ;D

as far as the Martin's go, I don't think they actually manufacture strings, which means they probably buy them and repackage them. Hence, you could probably find a set of Martin's in another package and pay less. I've never used Cleartones, but you've got me thinking, so I might just do that. Thanks!

Finally got around to trying the cleartone strings and I have to admit they have a bright clear tone while maintaining the full low string round sound. I have to see how the do long term. I stopped using the other coated string for a lifeless tone. These seem much better.

Elixer's are a nice string, but almost twice the price of DR's here, so I've gone back to DR for my electric. D'addario I used to like, but just don't really sound good to me any more.
I'll try the Cleartone's on my acoustic for next re string, but they're a little hard to find here.

Just to update the progress on the Cleartone strings. I still have the same set on. The guitar has been played fairly extensively. The D, G, B and high E still sound surprisingly good. Fairly snappy and rich while the A is less snappy and the low E is out and out muddy. Over all, considering the amount of time they have been on and how much they've been played I'm still happy with them. 5-6 weeks on a set of strings is pretty good for me.
