#2 son was visiting with us for a short holiday this last week and one day picked up my acoustic and started messing around with it. (he has never played guitar before or shown any real interest in playing it, except for "guitar hero")
Next thing you know he's looking on line for an inexpensive acoustic to take with him to India for 10 weeks with his work. I think he has decided on a Yamaha f310, just in case he doesn't stay the course. A pretty good package for the cash though. Ok, only an entry level guitar but it is a Yamaha, anyway he may decide not to keep it up and if he does stick with it he can easily upgrade. But it also comes with a tuner, spare strings, plectrums, soft case, strap, guitar stand and a DVD of song lessons to get him started.
So hopefully he will keep at it, buy an electric and come jam with me.
My main concern is that he is going to be better than me very quickly, he was quick to learn some simple stuff I taught him. So I think I am going to have to concentrate on improving my playing for now.

You'll have competition before you know it Les! Break his fingers! Yamaha F310 - get some decent strings on it - Martin M170 Extra lights or similar change the nut or sand the old one down a bit to get the action a bit more playable and he will have a super guitar Just changing the strings will make a huge difference to playability and sound Trust me been there and done it!

Thanks for the advice. I hadn't realised your acoustic was this model. Might just get you to show me how to sand or change the nut when we meet up.

Seems like just the other day when I when I taught my son a little boogie line in E. Now he's played on an international release. And we love to jam together. Very special times. Congrats.

I love the idea of father and son sharing music. It's great stuff.
