Right guys time for a new debate. Both of the aforementioned countries have produced some truly excellent Bands over the years so let's have your opinion on which country has produced the best. Naturally it would be good to know what your reasons are for your choice.
Let the debate commence.

That's a tough one, ain't it? I mean, the Stones, the Beatles, Dire straits, etc... and then the Allman Brothers, Miles, Muddy Waters, BB King, Buddy Guy, Albert Collins, Aerosmith, etc... can this one even be answered?

Can't vote just yet. Have to give this one some thought. That is a truly tough question. I would have been a little easier if you had asked which country produced the best country and bluegrass bands. ; )

Easy for me guys. My first love was the Beatles then the Stones then Steppin Wolf (Canada but not the US) then the Kinks and the Animals. Then I feel in love with Grace Slick and Stevy Nicks, Janice Joplin (hormones must have kicked in). I guess it is not so easy. ;D Phil

This is tough! I really like bands from both places, but overall, I think the Brits have this one. The bands that came to mind first from both places were The Rolling Stones (I like them over the Beatles) and Lynyrd Skynyrd (Skynyrd is my favorite American band). I had to go with the Stones because they have wider appeal, whereas Skynyrd is usually considered a 'Southern Rock' band only. Therefore, my vote goes to the Brits.

Tough call and very subjective
Can't be answered sensibly because the more you think about the harder it is to answer and for any answer to be justifiable
I think Phil's post somes it up really - I started thinking UK because of The Who, The Beatles, The Stones being real stand out bands but then you get to Jimi Hendrix, Albert King and all then the blues guys who really influenced most modern music. But then the USA have all those country bands but the UK have great folk. The UK have punk which like it or not was massively influential. Then grunge really from the USA
So as I am a Brit and my favourite band is The Who it is going to be the UK - totally subjective
If I name my top ten faves I think the UK would just come out on top (today!)

I think it is really down to what you listen to.
Blues has to go to the US but for Rock/Pop bands I would say the UK,
I would say we have the best bands but the US has the best individuals.

Maybe if we break it down to genre it would be easier. Rock and Roll - UK Country and Western - US Jazz - US Pop - US Disco - Um...nevermind Folk - UK Best guitarist that ever breathed oxygen - UK (Jeff Beck)
It's a tie so far.

I would have been a little easier if you had asked which country produced the best country and bluegrass bands. ; ) The freshest sound in bluegrass music I’ve heard in some time comes not from Kentucky, Tennessee or even West Virginia. This sound comes from the other side of the Atlantic, where in Glasgow, Scotland, the Moonshiners are carrying on the tradition of bluegrass music with a zest and energy that puts them right beside their better known American contemporaries. moonshiners.co.uk/reviews.htm'nuff said. Oh and Moon guitars make very fine instruments too I believe
