Hi I bought my first electric guitar nearly 2 years ago after seeking advice from Mojo about what to look for and I have been trying to learn to play it ever since. I have discovered that I don't have a lot of talent as a guitarist but I can still have a lot of fun trying. My skills are improving slowly and I have even been able to jam with another guitarist. What I didn't realise when I decided to take up the guitar was how badly I would be affected by GAS!! I now have 3 electric guitars with another on the way from ebay, an accoustic, 2 amps and a small herd of effects pedals. This has all led to some interesting discussions with my wife but she still buys me guitar related stuff as birthday and Christmas presents. I did try to get her interested in playing too but my passion is the Blues and that's not really her thing. The previous 3chordguitar forum really helped me a lot and I met (online) some really good blokes. Received plenty of advice and words of encouragement for a newbie guitarist so it's really good to see the return of the MojoCaster Forum. Keep on Rockin' Les

Les, thanks for coming back! Yeah, GAS is a thing of beauty These days, I play a lot of music with my kids - mostly mandolin and piano - and it's a ton of fun to share that with them. Learning the guitar takes a bit of time at first, but it becomes such a great gift in your life that we mostly don't mind the time expenditure. The impact on our wallet, well... I could be spending my money on worse stuff!

The impact on our wallet, well... I could be spending my money on worse stuff! Yep very true. Lesblues - the slower I seem to improve, the less I seem to care and somehow the better I seem to get and you are right it is all about having fun (or getting chicks if you are younger)

I agree, I seem to get better the less I worry about my playing. There's always gonna be someone better, but the point here is that it's not competition, it's art. I recently was able to play a song that I had tried to play forever and could never get right. A simple pleasure, for sure, but it felt great to finally get it done. Bottom line: unless your goal is to be Satriani, then worry not and enjoy the darn ride

I have been learning a bit here and there for years on my own and the progress has been very slow. Thanks to Youtube and posters like Mojo, I feel like I am actually making progress and having fun doing it.

Hi guys Thanks for the input. No worries about me enjoying the trip. I didn't mean to sound like I was feeling down about the guitar, simply being realistic about my "skill" as a guitarist.
I love playing my guitars and after weeks of practise when something clicks it is the most satisfying feeling. So don't be worrying about me I'll keep on plucking. Right now I'm working on Peter Green's version of Need your Love so bad. Now that man can play the guitar!
Anyway if I didn't have my guitars I wouldn't have GAS and that would be no fun at all.

I am a big fan of Peter Green's... Great tones in that LP of his, too! Now if only Gary Moore would give it back

I read on another forum that Gary Moore sold Peter Green's guitar! This information caused quite a ruckus among the members of the forum

I have a slightly different history. I played in band in high school and have great memories, Every 5 years we get together and play for our class reunion. This last year we put together a CD to give to the class and it was pretty good, but my guitar skills stagnated. I now play in church but they had 2 accustic guitars already so I have been forced into electric lead guitar. 3CG has really made it easy for me to grow. Since I am old, all the clasic are right up my alley. This site is just great for players of all skill. Thanks Phil

As long as I'm learning something new on the guitar, I'm happy! I just play for myself, so I don't care if something doesn't sound exactly right. As long as I can tell what I'm playing, that's all that matters! Oh yeah, the GAS aspect of it is fun also! I don't have funds for anymore gear right now (or I shouldn't buy, anyway), but I still find myself browsing Craigslist and finding great deals (that I can't act on!). I can't see myself spending the type of money required to buy a brand new guitar (I've done it twice, but those purchases were no more than $200 each). My budget and priority list doesn't allow it!

it is good to know that i am not alone. lesblues and gasman, i have picked up and put down the guitar for more years than i care to admit. but, i always come back. like you said, i only play for myself and it is the best form of relaxation that i know. my progress has been very slow, but i can hold my own strumming around the campfire and that is all that matters to me. i've been following this site/lessons for a couple of years now. Mojo....thanks man!

Mojo....thanks man! I agree, playing guitar offers a lot of satisfaction. Or should I say learning guitar. Mostly I just play for my own enjoyment but sometimes it's good fun to jam with someone else and I find it helps encourage me to try that bit harder to learn something new or perfect a piece I'm working on. I also have to agree that without Mojo and his lessons I wouldn't be half as competent as I am. It's always. Been good to check out one of his video lessons and discover that I can actually make my guitar play a tune. :-)
