Well after much hair pulling I finally worked out how to record voice and guitar at the same time. And it was of course absurdly easy. I think I need a "Cubase for Dummies" book. I have just posted my version of "The River" for you all to have a laugh at.

Cubase will not allow me to export the file as MP3 so the file size is too large for the forum. Tried converting it to mp3 using a 3rd party software that only succeeded in making the file size larger. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can post my sound clip. Thanks Les

Do you record in MP3 or wave? Some programs if you record in wave and then convert to MP3 shrinks it better.

cubase records in it's own data form and then offers the ability to export as wave, wma AIFC or AIFF (never heard of the last 2). I exported to wma and then used NCH's switch sound file converter program to convert it to mp3 but it increased the size of the file. When I tried to load my exported file into audacity it wouldn't even play.

Try to export your record audio files with bigger sample rate and bit depth, this way your audio quality will be better. I've heard your record and I must say I'm quite impressed with it Good job

When I record is use 24 bit and do all the mixing and mastering at this level. Then when you want to put it on CD you have to go down to 16. Since I am old I am not shure I hear a difference but I do it anyway. Now that you are up and running start messing with the gain until you get just that right sound. Increasing the gain too much some times makes thing muddy and not enough gain makes thing sound thin. Your fun has just started. Phil
