Seems like a while since I've checked in. Missed all Ya'lls smiling faces. ;D
To catch up on guitar stuff:
Rewiring the Tele to go back to more traditional setup (next week I hope)
Had another pedal meltdown. Did a bit of trading, buying and selling but I finally got the newest incarnation wired and powered up tonight. It's not where I want it yet but I ran out of money and space on the board so it'll have to do for now. I'll post some pics after I clean up the cabling a bit.
Started working on some jazz lessons. Pretty challenging stuff but really enjoyable. Hope to get some of it under my belt so I can begin to add it to my blues and country stuff. Though I've been cautioned by Les that jazz guitar pretty well bites it. LOL
Band has been doing pretty good. We have a song from the last CD we did on the CGM charts that's gone from #93 to #72 in the last few weeks. Same song went to #2 in the St. Louis area. Pretty exciting stuff for an old redneck boy. Enjoying the moment and remembering the purpose.
So what going on musically in ya'lls busy lives?

Great news on the songs guy, I thought this CD was a step above the previous one. I still have it on my phone and give it a listen. Sorry about the pedal dysfunction, some days it is hard to find just that right sound.

Seems like only yesterday you re-did the whole shooting match. ;D I just upgraded the pickups and the rest of the electrics on my Tokai Les Paul-alike. 1st time I've done something like that, very pleased with the results and the burns from the soldering iron shouldn't take too long to heal.

Hey RK, been a while. sorry about the pedals, but if you get into jazz you won't need 'em anyway. I've always loved jazz, but it's a bitch to learn, (ask me how I know!) If you get a chance I put a tune up on the "whats on the decks?" thread of Hank Mobley. Give it a listen and let me know how you like him. Keep us posted on what you're working on. I would love to hear how you are going to integrate jazz licks into your music.

pwfirst - Thanks Phil I appreciate it. BTW, it was our honor that you were the very first person to download both the first and the second CD's when they first came out. I told the guys about you and how we met here on the forum. All of course send their howdy's and their thanks for your support. - And with me brother, pedal meltdown is never an if and always a when. LOL...................and buy the maple Taylor dude, Mrs. Phil will eventually forgive you and let you back in the house. Until then you can enjoy the guitar in the great outdoors.......in a tent.......with a heater. @ Les - Dude, let's be fair here. I went back and looked up the thread from my last meltdown and those pedals lasted every bit of 10 months. And I kept 6 of the last 12. Of course I added 2 more to bring the new total to 14 items on the board. I'm still missing an octave, phase 90 and possibly a Wah. ;D (pics to come) What kind of pups and guts did you put in the Paul? That's the most sensible upgrade we can make most of the time. LOL'd on the burnt fingers comment. I was soldering some new cable together over the weekend and made it through without a scratch, then pinched a blood blister on the tip end of my left hand forefinger with a pair of needle nose pliers while wiring up the board. (don't ask) I can't even play right now and it's killing me. jay - Digging the Hank Mobley, reminds me of old Miles Davis type jazz. I love the way the horn players phrase things. Very vocal like. What I'm trying to do is mix jazz chord lines in with single note blues and country. It's been done a million times before but coming from a rock background it's anything I've tried before. I like all the inverted chord voicing's I'm learning and incorporating minor and 7th triads into runs. Not being a theory buff it's kind of mind twisting stuff. When it's all said and done it should sound similar to the phrasing in the piano intro on the Hank Mobley video.

Always like your setup RK. I still bounce around between using almost no FX and throwing the kitchen sink in there. The G&L isn't helping because it's very flexible I tend to want to just change pickups, play with the volume, rather than hit it with the pedals. There's not a bad sound out of that thing. I've dropped the compressor again, using the Ice 9 OD on a very low setting, and dirtying things up differently to how I used to. It's this whole big rollercoaster thing I'm still after a few more modulation effects. Bah!

RK, My Tokai Les Paul was made in Korea and had Mark iv tokai pafs, I managed to pick up a pair of 2nd hand Tokai Mark ii pafs that came out of a high end, Made in Japan Tokai LS150 (Les Paul). They are a huge improvement. Especially with the upgraded pots. The Tokai pots have a smaller diameter than CTS pots and I didn't really like the idea of trying to enlarge the holes in my guitar so after seeking a load of advice I decided to stick to Alpha pots. Did you know that Tom Anderson is quoted as saying: " I gave up on cts years ago. From the time they moved production to Mexico in the early 80's, they got worse and worse at quality control. They could not control end resistance or rotational torque or feel. I have tried a few of the new bourns metal casing pots, and was not knocked out by their feel enough to dig deeper. Alpha does a great job at feel and end resistance so we use them. I know some like a stiffer feel, but I prefer the smoother feel." So, I went for all 500k Log pots with a 0.022 cap in the bridge and a 0.015 in the neck, vintage style wiring. Crickey! I almost sound like I know what I'm talking about. My Guitar sounds brilliant now and the volume and tone controls are much more responsive than the originals. I am very pleased with it.

Oops forgot to ask, why do you have two DD-3s on your board?

@ rayden44, Thanks Bro. I totally understand the bouncing part with pedals. I spent a while back in the 80's were I all I used was a TS9 between my Flying V and Marshall's. At the time I was completely happy with my tone. I've thought on that Ice9 you told me about a while back. Haven't had a chance to try one yet but if it does low gain well then it's pretty darn versatile. I'm still running every thing into a clean channel on my amp. All the dirt comes from the pedals. The Amp 11 is really transparent and cleans up well with the volume knob. I use it for adding a little grit and still keeping the chord sounds really clear. The Les Lius does the dirty tweed thing better than any pedal I've heard to date. Great for bluesy stuff. The Brownie I only use on a few songs but it's a great Marshall in a box. Les, Man you totally sounded like a guitar tech in that post!! I was reading in rapt. lol Tokai did some amazing stuff back in the 80's. their Stat copies were particularly amazing. I haven't played a Paul by them yet. Maybe if we get to EU you could let me try your's out. I pulled the back cover off my Anderson and sure enough there are Alpha pots in there. Surprisingly enough they are mini's too boot. Silky smooth would be an understatement. Silly thing is I just got two new CTS 250k pots in the mail for my Tele. Now I'm second guessing that decision. Maybe I should have gone with the Alpha's. I've been using a 0.47 Sprague orange drop cap in the Tele (Fezz Parka mod) to reduce some of the shrillness in the highs on that guitar and it's working well so far. If I get some time this week I want to replace the 5 way switch with a 3 way and install those CTS pots. If I don't like them I'm definitely going to try the Alpha's. The dd3's are set up as one for short delay (slapback, like a rockabilly type thing) and one for long delay (more ethereal and spacey). I've kind of gravitated to them for ease of use. They're so simple even I can get them to do what I want without too much hassle. The repeats are a little cleanish but not sterile. I'd like to get my hands on a couple of old DD2's with the big chip for a little warmer repeat but they would have been twice the price. BTW - don't pay any attention to the settings on the pedals, all the knobs got moved around while I was determining what order they were going in the chain and taking them on and off the board doing the cabling.

RK, that board of yours twists my mind a little . I don't think I could run that thing. I have enough trouble with keeping six strings under control. You'll find that jazz chord substitutions will keep you busy I'm working on easier subs and find there's not enough practice time available. I would love to hear a few of your ideas, hint hint, post a clip when you can.

RK had I known about them I'd probably give the Cmatmods super signa drive a go. It does basically the same job as the Ice 9, plus has a boost level control, and the boost button being able to be operated independently without the drive being engaged.

Oh and can you get a nice U2 sound if you combine the 2 delays?

CTS pots have always been an improvement over the pots I've replaced.... maybe I just haven't heard sliced bread, but never really had any issues with them.
